Massages

Does anyone here go for regular massages? Go to different massageurs?

I had a back, neck and shoulder massage over the weekend. I booked a hot stone back, neck and shoulder massage. It was only on the morning of the massage I discovered it was a deep tissue massage mixed with hot stones.

It was lovely during the massage. I now find myself sore. Especially in my neck and shoulders? Is that normal for deep tissue massage?

I did like the massage however there was something different about it.

I had other massages before and usually half way through, the massage therapist would lift the towels or blanket and turn their face away and ask you to turn over. Then they focus on the front shoulders and neck.

I found during the massage, my arms weren't massaged. Just the upper shoulders. I also found that I wasn't asked to turn around where the front of my shoulders and neck wasn't really massaged. So it was just an hour of focusing on my back, neck and shoulders. It was lovely to be rubbed and I liked it but it was different and I nearly missed turning around and I missed my arms being massaged.

I went for other massages before and usually there would be more. Even a back, neck and shoulder massage.

Still it was nice.

I wouldn't expect my arms to be massaged during a back, neck and shoulder massage. Or necessarily to turn over, that might happen but usually wouldn't, in my own experience.

And personally I think it's a good thing if I hurt the next day! Means they've got to the niggly bits. But I have a very stiff back so also find a can move better afterwards, bugger range of movemen.

I get a full body massage every month without fail. It’s fairly normal to be tender after especially if it’s been a deep tissue massage.

I wouldn’t expect to turn over for back, neck and shoulders to be honest.

I have deep tissue every week as I’m a side sleeper and one side of my body is incredibly crunchy and painful. I also have to sit down for 6 hours a day for work, so I need the massage to straighten me out.

the pain will go OP, I’m always sore the next day after a massage as I’ve been uncrunched Grin

I was just browsing online and I found a different massage clinic in my city and online and their prices. Basically they have a few options for hot stone massage. They have a
1 hour option (back neck shoulder)
A full body massage for 1 hour 30 mins.
A 2 hour option for a full body holistic hot stone massage.

Prices are all very reasonable too.

I hate it when a massage comes to an end. I had a hour massage at the weekend. I am tempted to book a 1 HR 30 min massage. For a few weeks time.

I explored the 2 hour option but there's no availablity until the middle of summer for that one.

How would anyone massage the front of your neck? I used to have back neck and shoulders followed by a facial. She was able to get my neck, and after I turned over for the facial, as part of the facial she did my front shoulders (though again, not many muscles there so mostly redoing the top). She did do my hands while I had a mask on but it wasn’t part of the initial massage.

Bumping this because I had the exact same experience with the 'no turnover' thing recently. It’s normal for some deep tissue spots to focus 100% on the back if that's where the knots are. And yeah, the soreness is real—usually lasts 2 days for me.

I actually stopped doing basic relaxation ones because they did nothing for my desk-job shoulders. My husband started going to Centred after a brutal long drive last year and basically forced me to try them. Bit of a 'good' pain, but it actually works.
