Blocked outside drain - has anyone dealth with blocked outside drains before?

I noticed something last week. Whenever the kitchen sink or washing machine is in the use and the drain pipe outside located at the kitchen that drains into a drain, that keeps flooding and over flowing.

So that is likely blocked.

I bought drain clearing rods and checked YouTube for tutorials and I got to work and I was able to bring the water level in the drain lower but when the sink was used again, it flowed up and out again.

So I bought a drain unblocker.

I think tonight I will have to do some with the unblocking rods and then use the drain unblocker cleaner that I got and hope that helps.

The drain unblocker I got is from the brand HG.

Has anyone here dealt with a blocked outside drain?

Is it easy to unblock? Or do I need to call for a professional?

How about the cleaner I got...what would be the best way to use that?
It says to pour 300 ml down the drain and then pour the same amount of hot water down.

I don't know about pouring hit water down the drain because I would be afraid it will only just fill the water in the drain again.

I looked down the bathroom drains outside and the water levels are down much lower in those pipes/drains. It's just the kitchen outside drain that is raised and over flows.

Can anyone help me please and thanks.

Honestly, the vast majority of companies won't need you to be home,. especially if the manhole is the problem.

The water company will only deal with communal parts of drains, so if the manhole only deals with your run of drain it is yours/your mum's.

Too late now, but calling a drainage firm is probably cheaper than buying multiple sets of equipment etc.

If the drain run is on private property, you will be responsible for it. Depending on the age of the property you may have old earthenware pipes. These can crack and become susceptible to root ingress. This would be a professional job. No prizes for guessing how I know this!

Not necessarily it tends to be more complicated then that. We had a problem in our last house but we where the end row of terrace houses. You are responsible for the drain from your house to where it joins other drains. Then it's the water companies responsibly regardless as to who's actually property it's on. They came and unblocked ours for free even though it was in our garden as the blockage was passed our drain and in the combined drain part for the rest off the houses in our block.

But it sounds like op's is a septic tank system which means it's probably her responsibility. You can always ring them and check they where really helpful when we had a problem.

This isn't true. Most modern sewers have other properties discharging into that sewer, and the water company will clear it irrespective of whether its on your property or not.

Yes, they'll clear the blockage if it's in the communal sewer. They generally won't if the blockage is on the pipe leading from your property to the communal sewer as that's the householder's responsibility.

It's irrelevant anyway as the drain OP is talking about drains to a septic tank so isn't even connected to a sewer.

Personally I would check the manhole. We live in an end terrace and occasionally experience the downstairs WC blocking. Turns out our drainage is connected to the neighbours and as we are the end it blocks ours ! If we rod the manhole it clears. Depends on your drainage system, but either way you’ll have to clear it yourself or pay so it’s worth checking. Our old neighbours were putting nappies and wipes down their toilet! Which in turn affected ours. We thought the kitchen gully’s weren’t linked but it was all going to the same one

Yes recently had an external block. Built up grease apparently over the years, prior to us moving in. Just google drain clearance specialists and get a quote. Mine cost £98 +vat. Took the chap no more than 30 mins to sort out. Good luck.
