Train Delay

Sorry if this is the wrong place!
DH has been on the train today to a football match, it was booked as an off peak return but split save. The terms stated any route but not via a major city near us which is fine as he was travelling in the other direction.
His train back is faulty and is no longer stopping at the station he needed to change trains at, they’ve all been taken off. They’ve been told to now travel via this major city, when DH has spoke to the guard and said the terms of his split save state he can’t go via this city they’re given him a number to quote to the barrier staff so he can he let through (he shouldn’t need to go via the barriers as will get straight on another train home).
My question here though is that this was supposed to be a 40 minute journey home. It is now turning into over a 2 hour journey home due to now having to travel via another station.
I know you can claim for delay repay compensation, will this be the case although he had an off peak ticket so wasn’t booked on a particular train?

Yes you can still claim, just have to say which train you were on and why it was delayed.

Yes, you can claim with any type of ticket, and regardless of whether or not you have a seat reservation for the service that was delayed. If he has a paper ticket, make sure he either takes a photo of it now or keeps hold of it at the end of his journey.

I also try to get some evidence that I was actually delayed, which is usually a photo of a departure board showing the delay or cancellation, but I've never actually needed this. Beware that a lot of claims are initially rejected, and you then have to spell out why they were wrong to reject it.

Yes you can claim delay repay. It is based on your arrival time at the destination compared to the journey planned

Thank you! There was no departure board to take a photo of as it was announced via the tannoy when they were already on board however we’ve took a screenshot from the Trainline app showing the stop was cancelled on the particular train.
