Help with sleep

My DD28 has awful sleep. She is allowed 1 Zopiclone a week, so gets 1 good sleep a week. She has ME, ADHD, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety and chronic asthma. This lack of sleep doesn’t help at all.
She has 3mg of Melatonin every night, as well as a magnesium supplement. These don’t help really and it can be 3am before she’s able to get any sleep. Even then it’s not refreshing sleep.
Has anyone ever found a miracle solution at all, in a similar situation?

Definitely ditch the zopiclone. It might give the illusion of a good night's sleep but has rebound effect so makes it worse for several nights after taking it.

There's no miracle solution for insomnia.

Is she on other medications eg ADHD meds or antidepressants as they can cause sleep problems.

Is she having any energy drinks? as even drinking these in the mornings can have an effect on sleep.

Agree with going caffeine free as this made a big difference for me - I only drank tea and thought it wouldn’t affect me but it really helped - I also have a cbd gummie that really helps

Thank you.
yes she is on ADHD meds and antidepressant (duloxetine).
She does have 1 energy drink in the morning. No other caffeine. I will see if she will look to drop this.
Interesting about the zopiclone. I will look further into that. Thanks.

If ditching the energy drinks & zopiclone doesn't improve it she should push for a medication review as ADHD meds & duloxetine are both notorious for sleep problems. There may be alternatives she could try or the dose could be adjusted.
Sometimes it's a balancing act between managing the symptoms & managing the side effects.
Talking therapy for depression & anxiety plus the improved sleep from stopping antidepressants might be better overall. It's different for every individual.

I have chronic insomnia that was definitely worse on Duloxetine, so that might be worth exploring with her doctor.

Potentially the lack of sleep is a symptom of her MH (I know it is with me, and your daughter and I have very similar diagnoses) but it will also be impacting it, it's a vicious cycle! How is her sleep hygiene? Does she exercise/eat a good diet?

If she thinks anxiety is one of the causes, relaxation exercises before bed might help. I spend a while doing breathing exercises and gentle, static, stretches before bed which seems to help me to get to sleep quicker though hasn't had an impact on night waking/early waking. I've also heard good things about weighted blankets though I haven't tried one personally.

There is a good website that might help her.

Thank you to all that have replied. It truly is a viscous cycle. Much to think about. Thank you again.
