Baby curly hair help

Until a couple of weeks ago DD2(10 months) had no hair at all, it's finally coming in and although there isn't loads it's quite curly.

I have no idea how to look after curly hair, DD1 had loads more at that age and it was just thick and wavy. Mine is fine and wavyish.

When DD2 hair is wet it goes into little curls and stays for a bit but the next day looks/feels all dry and fluffy. The hair on top just sticks up at the front and makes her look like TinTin Grin

Is there anything I should be doing? Products I should be using? I've just been using johnsons baby shampoo so far.
Thanks!

I've added a photo when wet and dry but they're not great photos!

She's a baby. It doesn't matter if her hair is fluffy or sticks up. No you absolutely do not need products. She's a baby.

Ah...
That takes me back :-)
I didn't know there were products that should be used on infant's hair, other than mild shampoo.
I'll be interested to hear what other mums will answer your post with.
All three of my infants had curly hair at the back of their heads only, but as they grew the curls disappeared, the color changed from light brown to blonde and now, all three are dark haired.

Nothing at all other than washing with mild soap on occasion. My dd has proper curly hair, like long corkscrews. She didn’t start using any product in her hair until probably 8 and then just a curly hair leave in conditioner. When it’s longer, if it’s still curly, try to only brush when wet and leave to dry naturally.

Okay, that's why I asked, because I don't know if i should be doing something to look after her hair, I think it looks cute fluffy 🤷‍♀️ also I have alopecia - I have very little clue about hair. Thanks.

I just spritz my girls hair with water +/- leave in conditioner daily to refresh the curls

I have a curly haired one (a little older and was born with a full head of hair!) and I only brush it when it’s wet. Otherwise don’t use any products at all. Think they are far too small for that. I might twirl the ringlets with my finger for more definition but that’s all. It does gets fluffy and a bit wild but goes back to normal after being washed

Thank you for the advice! I'll carry on as I am for now then Smile

My child’s hair is really curly

I use a wide tooth comb to brush it gently when wet and use a light leave in conditioner on the mid to ends

never use products with sulphates

I’ll use curl creams and styling products when she’s probably about 7-8 depending on length

It would be lovely if it stayed curly OP.
When my babies were that young I thought they would have curly hair too , it was just so tight the curls at the back of the head, but now my DS's have slightly wavy hair, and my straight-haired DD is jealous of them!

ShinyWorthKeeping · 02/05/2025 18:35

My sister has super curly ringlettey hair, I was always so jealous with my few pathetic strands! DD1 was born with loads, she is 13 and wears hers past her waist, it's extremely long and thick so I'm also jealous of her.
DD2 had zero hair until very recently, I thought I finally had a little bald buddy!Grin
