Referred under 2ww - cancer

I've been in a lot of pain for a long time.

I bleed constantly between periods.

In December they saw something on a ct scan.

Now they've found a structure in the endometrium.

It's so frustrating when you tell hcp about pain you have and you're dismissed time after time.

Has anyone been through this? I'm so worried as a single mum.

It's a bit difficult to say what is what, and feeling dismissed by health care staff is not nice. Have they referred you to a gynaecologist and do you have an appointment soon?

errmm - the title says 'referred under 2ww' so yes

:sigh

Keep counting the crisp bags.

The reality of the NHS is that it may be called the 2WW traject but people can often wait way longer...

I had a 2ww after an ultrasound.
I had terrible periods. Tried a mirena coil. They made some comment about the size of my uterus when they did that. It didn't help and expelled itself after a couple of months. Family history of uterine cancer.
Anyway. I had a hysterescope which strongly suggested massive fibroids but couldn't be sure. Because of my age and the fact my family was complete, they did a hysterectomy 3 weeks later. All was fine, it was a worrying time though

They've booked a hysteroscopy for Wednesday. Didn't call me about it or give me any information so I don't know how to request sedation.

Thank you. Glad all was well.

I'm in my 20s. Have PCOS already so I know I have cysts etc but never been through this.

There would have been other options if I had been younger if I remember.
I didn't have sedation for the hysteroscopy and managed fine.

Give the Gynae clinic a ring at the hospital on Tues and see if they offer the option of Penthrox or a similar sedative gas for outpatient Hysteroscopies. It's nice to know it's there even if you don't end up needing it

Thank you. I will ask.

I'm in extreme pain and this was first seen on a ct in December so think I will need sedation

Fingers crossed. All the best.

Thank you. I've just seen the letter from the GP and she suspects endometrial cancer but didn't even discuss this with me despite ticking that she did.

I am sorry to read that, and that is clearly not right. (Speaking as an ex-GP here)

Hope you'll be fine.

Try not to panic. It’s great that things are moving quickly. 90% of referrals on the two week pathway are not cancer, but it means everything gets investigated quickly.

I’ve been referred twice. One wasn’t cancer (but another manageable condition) and one unfortunately was. The referral letter won’t mean that the GP thinks you have endometrial cancer. It’s simply the reason you are being referred for investigation. It wouldn’t be for brain cancer. They have to justify the investigations being requested.

The great thing is that endometrial cancer is actually incredibly rare in your 20s (I went through it with my mum in her 70s, stage 3, she’s fine now btw). It’s quite likely to be something else, but it’s good they are being thorough.

My experience both times was very positive and it was all very quick and efficient. I had lots of support. If you want sedation, just ring the number on the letter booking you in for your hysteroscopy. I think sedation would be quite a common offering and actually someone may ring you between now and then to confirm anyway. You will need someone to collect you from the ward after if having sedation.

Edited

Thank you so much.

The department is only open Fridays and Mondays and I've been given no information about preparation, stopping certain meds, fasting etc. So if I want sedation I don't know how to action it.

I'm due on my period on Monday which are very heavy and I don't know what to do if it comes as it will mean the procedure is delayed. I'm so confused and concerned.
