2 men on trial for felling the tree.
Aren't they embarrassed, what on earth possessed them?
They weren't exactly young either.

Grown men
Bet their parents are proud not?
Grow up.

It's possible to jail both - Im sure few would argue against that - and for most people , it's possible to be outraged/angry about more than one thing at a time.

Normally, cutting down a tree would not result in jail. However, in this case, the value of the tree was the significant factor. The methods used to calculate this value are available online.

I'm delighted they got a prison sentence. Shame the custodial part isn't longer.

I don't disagree, I just suppose it highlights that it's one rule for one, one rule for another. We aren't seeing any very highly paid, I assume very well educated ceos getting prosecuted are we? Just these two turkeys.

I'm glad we are, don't get me wrong - I'd just like to see some of this kind of action for the ones who are actually trashing our planet.

I agree - and as I said, I don't think there are many who feel differently. I'm sure that there will be few tears shed if Vennels et al are directed to the cells and told to stay for a very long time, for example.

"Mrs Justice Lambert also made an order for the forfeiture and destruction of Daniel Graham's Range Rover and mobile phone, both of which were used in the felling mission."

That seems very wasteful. Could they not have ordered their forfeiture and sold them to the National Trust for £1, to be used by their Northumberland-based forest rangers?

His baby will also pay a very heavy price in not actually getting a proper chance to ever know his/her father in the crucial formative time.

Even more proof of his sad idiocy that he had a newborn child to enjoy, spend time with and help to look after - but instead, he chose to travel to vandalise a hitherto-beautiful part of the country that his child will grow up in.

If they'd wanted a punishment to fit the crime - then why did they not set the pair of them to a tree planting programme? About forty thousand saplings, in February, on the coldest, wettest and windiest part of Hadrian's Wall? I'm sure someone would sacrifice some grazing land in favour of a new woodland.

Maybe something to think about when they get out and are on parole.

Too easy. Not really a punishment, whereas depriving them of liberty and personal possessions is.

Yes. but if they're out on parole they've already done their prison time. I was thinking this would be good as a follow up.

Damage to Hadrians wall was also taken into account. Not however previous convictions of one of the perps which I think is wrong.
