Morocco end of May at 20w pregnant

We were desperate for holiday and I booked Marakech end of May when I will be 20weeks. It's adults only resort and we been there couple of years ago. We visited Marakech twice now and had great time (no food poisoning, great people, felt safe etc)

I'm planning to stay in the resort most of the time given how hot is going to be and be careful with food. The only thing I haven't done is purchase medical insurance. Obviously, if something is wrong medically before the trip I won't travel.

Just wanted to gather your thoughts and see what else I should be thinking about? Is Morocco at 20weeks pregnant a good idea at all?

Why not? As long as you have air con and a shady place to sit during the day ideally with a pool it will be delightful! I went to Morocco at 4 months pregnant in May many years ago and it was lovely

As long as it’s not a Zika affected area (or other mosquito borne illnesses), just check, I think it’s fine. Realistically, you can get food poisoning from salad in the UK.

@mindutopia - definitely no Zika and no malaria so safe from that perspective. Fair point on food poisoning - I have chances getting it in the UK as well if I go out and don't cook everything at home.

@FortyElephants - did you do anything different prep wise at all as compared to, let's say, traveling to Spain?

I found lots of opinions how dirty and how hot it is. I really didn't find it that dirty at all. It's just different culture and slightly different people compared to Europeans. Agree that the heat will be heavy to handle but I will stay within resort when it's at it's peak. During heatwave at home in a room with no AC is not great either.

Why would you not get medical insurance?

You’ll be fine! Enjoy your time before the baby comes!! I went to Seychelles and South Africa on a safari at more than 20 weeks and both were fab :) I just adjusted where needed

I would get medical insurance (not clear if you plan not to or just haven't got it yet) and check your airlines rules on pregnant passengers.

I had my baby at 27 weeks while on holiday. Get insurance and make sure it covers the costs of labour and the baby’s medical care.

MumChp · 28/04/2025 15:17

It's crazy stupid not to have medical insurance.

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 28/04/2025 15:21

It’ll be fine. Just get travel insurance. I did Marrakech in early pregnancy and a long haul at 29 weeks. Had a great time both times, but personally wouldn’t do a long haul that pregnant again just in case of early labour, but it all worked out.

I am definitely getting medical insurance. I just don't have it sorted as of yet.

Thank you for all responses 💐

You should do it as soon as you book so that you are covered for cancellation.
Leaving it could be risky, if your circumstances change and you can't travel you would be out of pocket.
I went to Tunisia at 20 weeks and had a lovely time.
