Looks bad! I haven’t seen much on hospitals / emergency services but I’ve more seen comments on travel - roads trains planes. Hope they can fix it and wonder what caused it.

Was there a politician or individual in Sweden recommend people to prepare about three days worth of stuff - back up power and long life food stuffs?

Is this connected to what's happening in Spain and Portugal now?
This must be some sort of an attack.

Yes, currently. My son and DIL were just about to get in one when it first went off! Luckily they didn’t and just walked down to the pool. It’s carnage though because the amount of people trying to use the 2 lifts is unreal! There are a lot of families with prams etc. I’m on the 9th floor and I have ME/CFS so I couldn’t get back up without it. As it happens, I’m not feeling great anyway so I’m tucked up in bed with DH bringing me some food in a while.

Glad you managed to get back up! Hope you manage to get some rest. Sounds crazy

Sweden have had readiness procedures and advice in place for a very long time. It’s simply being updated and re communicated. Current information doesn’t seem to point to any sort of attack.

Jokes aside, you're feeling confident about power coming back or you'd not be posting here? You'd save your phone battery?

Hearing reports that power is coming back on around us. Thankfully we have power banks so have kept phones going. And I read a book today!

Have to admit I don't understand the temperature variation thing, its spring, the temps over in Spain are in the mid to low 20's and even an overnight frost, especially in the higher areas, would be fairly normal at this time of the year ?

What sort of renewable electricity is Spain relying most heavily on ?

Solar I'd imagine?

It was in the papers. Most countries have recommended this for many years and send out reminders.

Yes individual MPs have said stuff, but at no point has it been offical government advice to keep a food stock.

And lots of people won't think through what they have kept. I bought stuff for the storm a few months ago, then had a power cut and no way to cook it.

If the government want people to stock food they need to issue proper guidelines on what to buy and keep

I do agree with the not thinking through what you’ve bought. For example I suggested to my sister in Spain earlier that if she doesn’t have bottled water left to use the tap water and boil it (forgetting she has an electric hob…./not even thinking about it). 🙈

Also tap water is safe to drink in Spain so she wouldn't need to boil it.

In Portugal, came back on a couple of hours ago. Off since 11 am. First lights went off in the post office, then I went to get a coffee 10-15 mins away and could only get a lemonade. Came home and all off, then internet went off. People going nuts in Lidl apparently and no bread & milk left, all petrol stations closed, Gnr standing on the roads blowing their whistles
Very relieved it’s back on, but water off now, scary how much we rely on it all
If it was a cyber attack/Putin, why Portugal & Spain? Hardly a threat

It was reported only a month ago that France was preparing to issue a survival manual to all residents. Today has got me thinking.

I have a torch but not sure if I have the right batteries. I have about £50 cash in the house. I have no bottled water but a bit of food that could be eaten cold. Tinned tuna and sweetcorn, olives, prawns in the freezer. But no bread to make sandwiches. I do have a few pouches of rice which I am guessing you can eat cold if needed. And there’s two bottles of Diet Coke in the fridge. I guess I could manage for 24 hours or so but I could be better prepped.

France preparing to issue 'survival manual' to all households

The document consists of around 20 pages, according to French media, and suggests items people should prepare as part of a "survival kit", including at least six litres of bottled water, 10 cans of food, batteries, a flashlight and medical supplies.

It certainly makes you think that something is going on in the world when France are considering issuing survival manuals.

I can totally understand the Scandinavian countries having manuals more for storm damage than for cyber attacks.

I have family near Valencia, they got power back around 1100. They had no power, water or phone service from around midday

Torches, fairy lights and camping lights are brilliant, spare batteries. A power bank, solar is ideal. Wind up radio, bottled water and a camping stove or gas BBQ are good basics to have on hand.

Tinned things like fish, fruit, vegetables like sweetcorn and snacky bits also great, I buy a lot of dried fruit, mango slices last years in the cupboard.

Near Valencia:
No power until now. No banks or shops or schools or pubilc transport.

BeretRaspberry · 29/04/2025 04:17

I’m up for the loo! (And it often takes me a while to go back off, hence posting). They switched us off at about 22:40 but then it came back on just after 23:00 and seems to have stayed on since then so I’m assuming all is ok here now.

I'm in Portugal on holiday, it was a bit unsettling to be honest. Spent the afternoon at the beach yesterday, went to the bar for a drink and they were shutting as no power. Walked back to hotel, most shops and bars had closed. A couple of small supermarkets open in the dark just letting a few people in at a time and taking cash. Bought crisps and wine for tea.
At hotel electric kept going off and on and phone signal went down so couldn't really find out what was going on. Water went off too so went to bed. Just woke up, electric, water and phone signal are all working atm.
