Hi, due to hubby’s job, we are relocating from Essex to south Norfolk. We have 2 kids, 4 year old and 8 month old, I’m looking for recommendations on villages or towns that are safe, low crime, have good primary and secondary schools and have things to do with kids. also, not too far from Norwich. We will be visiting some places soon, to check out, so far I’m looking At Wymondham and Hethersett. Thanks in m advance

Wymondham High is getting a boy of bad press at the moment. Not sure if you're looking at high schools or earlier.

I would definitely be looking at both, seniors not for a while as oldest child is only 4. Thank you for replying

We moved from London to south Norfolk 15 years ago. To be honest almost any village / town in Norfolk is going to be fairly low crime, safe and have good schools. That’s not really what you have to think about. What you do need to consider with a family is things like transport - it’s a real issue as dc become older and want independence. The trains and buses here are awful, so unreliable and constant road works making everything slow, constant bus replacement services for trains. This isn’t an issue when your dc are little but as they become teens and young adults it does become an issue - even if just for getting to university and home again (my dd is at Nottingham university, she didn’t want to go to the UEA). We moved to a town that’s on the Norwich to London Trainline and the train service is awful even though on paper it seems good.

Also, there are lots of houses being built in many of the smaller towns - 100s - and no plan to increase schools, doctors, dentists. Again, something to consider. The town were in (don’t want to say as won’t out myself) has no NHS dentists available- the nearest one is 20 miles away. It’s a very common issue and is only likely to get worse.

That all sounds negative and it isn’t meant to- we love living here and wouldn’t change it but there are some issues to consider.

We have friends who live in Trowse. Good primary and secondary schools, great sense of community, 30 mins walk to city centre/train station/cinema/bowling etc, close to Whitlingham Country Park and dry ski slope. Can highly recommend.
