Can you solve this? Non verbal reasoning

I am really struggling with non verbal reasoning. I am sitting the HPAT next year and am crying with frustration trying to answer them 😅

Can you get the answer to this? Show your work.

I think it's C. I think they're adding the number of sides in boxes 2 and 3 of each row to get the number of sides for the shape in box 1.

That's the conclusion I came to too.

And me.

Magpiecomplex · 27/04/2025 20:12

Likewise. Also the central circle would need to be just the outline because those are alternating between filled and empty, so if one of the options had been a small black circle, that's how you would have worked out whether it was filled or empty.

SweetChilliGirl · 27/04/2025 20:34

Yup, that's what I thought.

slamdunk66 · 27/04/2025 21:15

I think C too. Hard to explain as non verbal/ fluid reasoning is intuitive.

howdoyoudooooo · 27/04/2025 21:21

Same answer here, C.

The way I’d explain it is by saying that the 2 variables are the number of sides the outer shape has, and the colour of the inner circle. Then you look for a pattern in those variables. It looks like number of sides in column 1 = number of sides in column 2 and 3 added together. And the inner circle is alternating between black and white (or filled and empty).

I think C too

whoops

Objectrelations · 27/04/2025 21:33

E must have a white dot and not be a triangle

Numbersarefun · 27/04/2025 21:33

I think C, but whether a circle has 1 side or infinite is debatable.

caringcarer · 27/04/2025 21:41

A. 7 sides on row 1, 16 on row 3 so need 9 sides on row 2. That would be triangle with white bit in middle as it alternates.

This

beccahamlet · 27/04/2025 21:52

I think e too. For the same reason as pps.

Sorry forgot to show May workings

left shows many sides in total middle and right add up to it. Centers alternate

Toomanydogwalks · 27/04/2025 22:30

I think E. Need to have a white small circle in the middle and not be a triangle.
