Endless refrain from my teenager. Drives me mad. What she wants is a freezer full of crap & a cupboard full of crisps & biscuits. I’m not up for supplying that... but I probably am a bit crap at keeping the kitchen stocked with a ready supply of quick easy teenager friendly snacks/light meals.

would love suggestions - things you always have in? Quick things that are also nutritious? Half thinking of always having certain things in along with a recipe notebook so I can bat her back to consult that rather than texting me with food based complaints in my absence…

My go tos when son was a teen were bagels, crumpets, malt loaf, bananas, grapes, yoghurts, crackers, baked beans, cheese, ( hard and spreadable) ham, bread, peanut butter and jacket potato’s

terracelane23 · 27/04/2025 20:10

We have in a good range for our teenage boy. He has toasties (ham and cheese typically), cereal, scones, biscuits, chocolate, crisps, pizza, chicken nuggets, toast, flapjacks, brownies, orange juice. He snacks on what he wants.

@Comedycook

ok, stealth boast…not everyone can afford to have as much food in as you. or maybe they don’t wanna blow so much of their hard earned cash on ensuring there is multiple packs of different biscuits available at all times… I don’t…

Where on earth do people store all this stuff anyway, huge fridges and freezers, not everyone has the space. Certainly cant keep that amount of bread products in, theres no room in the cupboards

Crikeyalmighty · 27/04/2025 20:37

@Cherrytree86 I agree with that and to be honest the more unhealthy but grabbable stuff with no effort I had in the more my teen at the time would simply eat it mindlessly without thinking to put something together and yes, constantly having vast amounts in like that costs a fair bit of cash on snacks not even allowing for meals that many don’t have

Okay thinking about what I might have used for lunch today had I been here… we do have in - bread, eggs, peanut butter, jams, cheese, (no ham, no hummus), salad, fruit, crackers, halloumi, tinned pulses, pasta, tuna, baked beans, pesto.

maybe she is just being annoying!

That's plenty of food.

It's her, not you.

Yabvu

Buy a multipack of crisps and a packet of biscuits ffs

Why? We’re a recipe household.
4 adults, everyone can cook.
If anyone wants a snack there’s fruit, toast, omelettes. Crisps are for parties, biscuits for travelling or with a cup of tea at work.

Biscuits are for travelling? Never heard that before!

We have a health and obesity crisis that also means we don’t have the money to look after people who are ill or disabled- ffs don’t just stock up on junk

mine loved making pancakes with cheese or syrup and popcorn with butter/syrup - real treat food but also real food

for a grab and go hit - toast like it or leave it and fruit. ( bananas abs grapes )

It's an absolute fallacy that real food made from ingredients can't make you fat and only processed ones do.

I reckon pancakes served with syrup has way more calories than a bag of crisps.

I think it’s more that ready made processed food is easier to consume mindlessly. Big bag of Cheetos= inhale in front of tv without thinking whereas pancakes with syrup have to be made, eaten with a knife and fork are eaten more slowly, you’ll feel full quicker.

HRTQueen · 27/04/2025 22:36

get some toastie bags they are great for making toasted cheese sandwiches

its easier to have already sliced cheese (and less mess)

andtheworldrollson · 27/04/2025 22:51

Eat too many calories and yih will get fat but it’s a lot easier to eat more junk calories than real ones - the later fill you up and the feeling lasts longer

look at the pancakes - ( egg and milk protein ) sone with cheese ( more filling protein ) and some with syrup - usually a lot less sugars than most sweet treats

and just the process of having to cook and make them makes you more mindful which also helps reduce overeating

geab a bag of crisps and the grab some other snacks and then and then and then….

real food is amazing stuff and teenagers need feeding

Fruit, fermented carrots, nuts, eggs so she can boil them, crackers and cheese, homemade flapjacks...
I have a teen also and I refuse to open the door to unhealthy food.

Fermented carrots??? Wtf?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 27/04/2025 23:02

Easy "pizza" -
Get part baked rolls & tomato puree.
She can cut the roll in half, bake for 5 mins.
Top with puree & cheese & then whatever she likes - ham, chorizo, spring onion, etc.
Put back in oven/air fryer for another 5 mins.

Netcam · 27/04/2025 23:06

Oat cakes, bananas, avocados, nuts, peanut butter.

bugaboo218 · 27/04/2025 23:14

Teen DDs favourite ( healthy ish ) snacks are:

Cucumber, carrot sticks or pepper sticks with home made hummus or the above with a bowl of tuna mayo

Sliced apple slices with peanut butter

single size platter made up of cheese cubes, charcuterie and fruits of choice

Crunch box made up of pretzels, popcorn, dark chocolate squares and apple slices

Banana pancakes with Greek yoghurt and berries

creamy porridge with berries

banana or raspberry or strawberry muffins

mini scotch eggs

Avo, eggs or beans and cheese on toast.

She would eat crisps, biscuits, cakes etc all day long if I let her- everything in moderation ( usually weekends )

ohreallyIsee · 27/04/2025 23:25

Always have basics in, bread, cheese, tomatoes, ham.eggs. fruit, crisps biscuits
Also tinned spaghetti. Has her own drawer in freezer with goyzas, sausage.rolls
mini pizzas etc, if she wants anything she needs to let me know before order otherwise she has to walk to supermarket herself.
