What are some nice towns to visit in the U.K?

I’m looking for some nice towns or areas of cities that meet some of my criteria?

I’m looking for nice towns to potter about in. The type of towns that have independent shops, nice cafes, delis, bookshops and preferably a museum or two. Charity shops that sell books would be very welcome too.

Two places that I’ve visited relatively recently like this are St Andrews and Stockbridge in Edinburgh but any ideas would be very welcome.

TIA

Kings Lynn?! That doesn’t really match up with the other lovely places mentioned.

Moreton in Marsh
Stamford
Ely (great for charity shops and the Toppings bookshop)

Lincoln, York , Durham, and have to agree with Arundel, it's lovely.

Stratford upon Avon

Agree with many of the above - but I'd like to add Rochester. Fantastic cathedral and castle, Dickensian tea rooms, plenty of great charity shops and a huge and rambling second hand book shop...

Thought of another couple I've been to. Hereford and Woodbridge, Suffolk. Lovely places for a potter around.
