I feel bad enough about being off. Started with a sore throat then a hacking cough, streaming nose and felt rough. Progressed into losing my voice and doctor has given me antibiotics
i was off all last week with it, and today I’m on the edge of do I go in or not tomorrow
throat is still sore, voice back but croaky and I’m still coughing up green stuff
UGH

Day off - definitely.

Definitely day off. This particular virus (I'd love to be an epidemiologist to know the answers), is SO prevalent within my community, that I reckon more people have had it than haven't. (The only ones I know to have steered clear of it are people who virtually have no contact with other people). The fatigue is awful. Hope you feel better soon OP.

I only know my dad that’s had it! He’s on antibiotics too and said he’s still coughing stuff up, his started about 3 days before mine

I’m staying off. Awake as I’ve got upper right side back pain when I breathe in, it’s better if I lie on that side so I’ve got into bed
really need to start getting better but the antibiotics don’t seem to be doing anything

Green stuff means infection

So, no work

😮‍💨

Luckily i WFH so nobody else to infect! I’m immunosuppressed. But I need to be able to talk all day without losing my voice Sad

How many days of antiBs have you had? If it’s been say five days and you feel no better, ask for a sputum sample to be sent to the lab as you may need different ones. At a guess I’d say you’ve been given amoxicillin because it’s a good general all rounder, but it never works for me and I usually end up on doxycycline or co-amoxyclav. Like a PP says, if your sputum is still green then it’s an infection. Chest infections are awful and can take weeks to recover from. Contact your GP tomorrow, make sure you stay hydrated and I hope you do feel better very soon!

one day left - I’m on clarithromycin which usually works well for me - I asked not to have penicillin as it hasn’t worked the past two times for tonsillitis
my dad also has it and he’s on a different antibiotic, also still coughing up green and says he feels wiped out. So thinking maybe it is just viral. His started before mine too

Do people really still think this? It's partially true I guess but it's not conclusive. Green mucus or nasal discharge can be caused by a bacterial infection or a viral infection. If it's a viral infection antibiotics aren't going to help. I don't know if that's the case with OP or if she needs a different antibiotic but the color of her secretions alone isn't going to give her a definitive answer.

No work, you might lose your voice. Speak to your manager and GP.

CalicoPusscat · 28/04/2025 04:21

Unless there's some paperwork you can do instead

Unfortunately not, it’s either on the phone all day or don’t work. I’m feeling slightly better this morning at least
