Birthday present for 17 year old girl

I'd like to send a birthday present to a family friend's daughter when she turns 17. I'll have to post it so nothing bulky or heavy. Not jewellery as I've sent jewellery a few times over the years. She doesn't particularly have interests, just normal socialising with friends. It needs to be sent abroad so not food.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Depends what she likes really. Probably safe (but boring) ideas - Starbucks/other coffee shop card, cinema voucher/card, Zara gift card ….that kind of thing.

All I wanted at 17 was books.
Maybe a copy of your favourite book from when you were 17. If you get a paperback copy then that's not too bulky.

She lives abroad

Not sure why that makes a difference? Just buy online from the country she can live so and email deliver it.
Zara/Starbucks etc are global companies.

For a 17 year old? Aren't they for young kids?

I agree with the book suggestion. A book is also much less likely to get held,up by customs. As an alternative to sending a book you liked at that age (which I think is an excellent suggestion), then look into books set in the country where your friend’s daughter lives.

Yes and no.
My almost 17 year old is obsessed with them but unless you know your friend likes them that is a risky choice.

Can her parents advise? As the mum of a DD17, I have frequently been asked over the years to supply ideas.
My DD17 turns 18 in a few weeks. She is completely stressed out by her impending A level exams. When I asked tonight, she said she does not want to do anything for her birthday!
She likes clothes from Hollister (gift cards available) and likes the power/freedom of vouchers for a range of shops.
