My DD has suffered with eczema and I’ve finally managed to get her skin to calm down from flare ups, but still struggling with itchy skin. I’m currently using ECOVER washing liquid and doing a rinse wash afterwards, this seems to be the best washing powder ( previous used fairy & Persil) non bio) & also using dream cream from Lush. Both seemed to have eased her itching but it is still bothering her. I also don’t use anything but water for her baths.
does anyone have any advice on how to ease it or Atleast stop her from clawing her poor skin to shreds.
Thanks x

Cetraben
Cetraben oil for baths
Cetraben emollient to wash with and put on after bath

Our eldest had such bad eczema as a baby/toddler. He was in baby grows to sleep until gone two to keep his hand from his skin.

Cut her finger nails as short as you can. Which is not easy but it really helps.

I wouldn't use LUSH products all the time I would use emollients from chemist.

You can get Cetraben on prescription, which really helps because it's not cheap and it's advisable to cover her x4 times a day, which really doesn't take long, once when getting dressed first thing, once around lunchtime nappy once around late afternoon nappy and just before bed.

But whilst you wait for a prescription you can purchase off the shelf in a chemist.

I used to use a small amount of ecover non bio powder for washing clothes, you can now get ecover zero, so no perfume at all, which might be useful whilst you work out what is causing any itching.

It's really hard, you see your baby not understanding and waking up and being itchy all the time and it takes days to see much effect.

I would also do spot tests now for suntan lotions, because you will need them.

Boots Soltan 50+ sensitive was ok for us
P20 was ok

Buy some testers or small bottles now if you can, you can always use them yourself if they make her flare up.

You can also put short bursts of steroid cream on flare ups, you need to see a GP to get it but it might be worth getting and appointment and talking it through and see if you can get referred to a dermatology nurse as well. They are amazing and will talk you through possible routines that might work for you and your daughter.

Thank you so much for the recommendations I will give them a go, I have used other emollients before but non that have worked.

Also used the steroid cream and had an awful time with the flare ups when we stopped it, so I’ve kind of been put off using that anymore. Our GP hasn’t exactly been the most helpful tbh, likely going to change practices soon.

May end up going private for the dermatologist, they told me it was a year wait to just be referred.

My DH suffered with terrible eczema when he was a baby & one day it just cleared up so I’m hoping that will happen (he does still suffer now but not as bad) but in the mean time it is just so awful seeing her so uncomfortable and nothing I do seems to help.
