Varifocal/progressive contact lenses

After years of wearing glasses just to read, I now need them to watch TV, drive, and pretty much do anything - close or far. So I now have varifocal glasses. I'd like to try varifocal (or progressive) contact lenses.

Has anyone tried them? If so, did you stick with them? I hear they can be really hard to get used to. But I'd love to stop wearing glasses all the time so I'd like to see if progressive contacts could work. TIA.

I’ve worn them for many years. I have really severe motion sickness so I was worried. I have never managed to get used to glasses even. I try to wear them and get sick. So contacts are a necessity. I put the multifocal contacts in and had no issues. It took about 2 days for my eyes to really get good at adjusting quickly. There was a tiny lag every now and then right at the beginning of just a second or two.

the one downside is the restricted ranges. At my last visit I had to make a decision to balance my distance and close up vision. I haven’t been entirely happy with it. Neither is as crisp as I would like. I don’t think that is entirely on the prescription though. My eyes are clearly in flux with age and I’m going back for a new prescription before my annual appointment.

the other downside is the cost. They are pretty much the most expensive contacts on the market. I find them worth it. Not everyone can stretch their budget.

I wear varifocal contacts. They're brilliant and didn't take long to get used to. It's just getting confident generally with putting in and taking out. They're so much better than glasses though.
I think lots of opticians do trials so just give them a go. I'd ask around though. Some are much better at getting the prescription just right than others.

I've worn contacts for many years...I'm very short sighted. When I needed varifocal glasses I decided to give the multifocal lenses a try too, but for me they didn't work. The distance vision was less crisp, ditto the reading vision... the optician explained that there is a slight compromise in this..some people find it fine, but for me it was not enough.
I wear contacts with readers perched on my head :)

I have trialled varifocal contact lenses a few times, but the manufacturers can’t get them quite right for me. If I can see distance clearly then the reading isn’t quite right and if I can read perfectly, then the distance isn’t quite right. So far I haven’t opted to change to them and so continue with my lenses that I can see distance with and then add reading glasses.
