Anyone else love a really firm mattress?

Went mattress shopping recently, found it really hard to get a good solid mattress. Am I in a minority? The number of people on here who love mattress toppers (shudder) make me full like I might be. Lighthearted chat obviously! But can't sleep on a soft mattress.

Not true. I've had my firm mattress for 4 years, its still perfect. Never had hip and shoulder pain in my life.

Yes - sleeping on my front, a soft mattress gives me a sway back - I need firm support.

I like pocket sprung ones that mould into the arch of your back and support it when you lie on your back. If my back is aching I find it cures it overnight.
No right or wrong though. Whatever works for you is best.

I sometimes get tempted to sleep on my sofa and get rid of the bed. It's victorian and very firm. But yes nothing too soft.

I like a very firm mattress. The last time I chose one, the sales assistant said it was an unusual
choice for a lady, and normally only chosen by large, heavy men!

This is hugely dictated by whether you’re a side sleeper or not. A hard mattress for a side sleeper can cause shoulder/neck pain due to not enough give. Can also be dictated by age and onset of aches/pains/ orthopaedic issues. Up to 50 could sleep on any old thing, sadly no more.

Love a firm mattress! Any particular brands people would recommend?

DH converted me to a hard mattress nearly 30 years ago and I could never go back to anything even remotely soft.

Completely disagree with PP who said you start developing aches and pains, absolutely not the case.

We had our last mattress for far too long and have just spent a fortune on a new Hypnos bed, with a beautiful hard sprung mattress on it. Bliss, I sleep like a log now.
