Blood test results - worrying?

Emoleno · 23/04/2025 08:51

I've been sent my blood test results, but I'm not a medic and don't understand them. Apparently I need to make a follow-up appointment, so I presume there's a problem.

I'm wondering if anyone would be kind enough to 'translate' them, please?

Thank you

Was there any other results? These look ok to me. Try not to worry x

The numbers in square brackets are the expected ranges, so presumably it's the hematocrit falling just outside that that they want to see you about. It is only just below what they expect, so it could just be a case of monitor and see what a further set of tests shows.

Why did you have the test in the first place? Have you been symptomatic for something?

Your red cell counts and haematocrit look a touch low to me. That could mean anaemia or B12 deficiency I think, but honestly if it was something they were concerned about they would have you back it straight away. Try not to worry, nothing there looks obviously concerning.

Why were the bloods taken? Nothing is standing out as concerning to me.

Nothing is massively concerning there - maybe low iron? But barely out of range tbh.

Your haemoglobin and MCV are normal, so I wouldn't bat an eyelid at the trivially low haematocrit. I'm a GP and would have filed this as normal, unless there's some major context missing. The slightly low eosinophil count isn't worrying either.

Do you still have whatever symptoms led your doctor to do the test? I wonder if your GP had planned to follow you up even if your test results were normal.
