Britain will not lower its standards or water down regulation in exchange for a trade deal with the US, chancellor Rachel Reeves has confirmed

The Reform political broadcast didn't apply the the stop blaming others. It was full on anti immigrants and blame Tories and Labour

That’s really going to disappoint a few people.

But would be excellent for building on our trading relationship with the EU.

I find it infuriating and sad that British politics has reduced to this.

I want to hear what people will do to make my life better. Not whose fault it is it got worse.

especially when so far no one has actually solved the problem of declining Britain.

I do still have hope Starmer will make change. I find him open and that he communicates well when he does speak out. I also think he’s less of the populist character.

I don’t agree with all his decisions but so far I believe in him as a person that he’s got Britain’s best interests at heart.

I live in hope he’s the change we needed.

Same but my hope’s wavering.

I think I’d have to agree with this.

But also, it has to be said, the events of the last few months have revealed just how much we can’t just think about what’s going on in Britain; and the government has to take all of our needs into account along with what’s going on in the wider world.

KS and RR can talk about their ‘rules’ as much as they like, but world events are not going to play ball with those, sad to say.

Is that recent? Or before the GE last year?

'Stop blaming others', that is good to hear

What does he mean with 'unintended consequences'? Any examples?

No he didn't elaborate, they were bullet points really.

BIWI · 23/04/2025 20:14

"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

And you think this is someone worth voting for?

Anyone can say what they’re going to do, making it sound absolutely positive for the local community - the sunlit uplands of Brexit come to mind.

But unless you can give more detail and say how you’re going to do it, it’s just empty words.

There was one today. We watched a Finnish crime drama instead though so don't know what was in it.

Tonight's broadcast, you can watch it on iPlayer.

The Lib Dems local candidate leaflet was just bullet points as well. Haven't had one from Labour yet although they don't do well in my area.

And? Two wrongs don’t make a right!

What's wrong with you. Why the need to be rude again.

BIWI · 23/04/2025 20:45

Why do you think I’m being rude? I’m making the point that the Reform candidate is only making claims about what they will do, without backing them up with any kind of plan or suggestion as to how they will achieve those claims.

I’m sorry if you don’t like me pointing that out, but it’s not being rude.

Absolutely however much people want to pretend otherwise (Trump is a prime example) we are a globalised world now - we can’t go back from that we have to find a way to make it work.

countrygirl99 · 23/04/2025 20:58

Why so touchy 2Dogs?
BIWI said 2 wrongs so criticising the Lib Dems too. I expect if a Labour leaflet was the same the opinion expressed would be the same.

Rummly · 23/04/2025 21:07

All campaign leaflets are the same - vague and overblown promises that use ‘dog whistle’ or coded language. No party is better than any other in that respect.

I do have a particular loathing of LibDem literature though, because it does frequently try to be deceptive: dressing up leaflets as local free and independent news sheets, and the famously dodgy bar charts, really pisses me off.

Notonthestairs · 23/04/2025 21:11

But I agree most leaflets are deliberately vague.

2dogsandabudgie · 23/04/2025 21:12

BIWI - I would imagine that all the parties' leaflets just have bullet points as there's not enough space to go into detail so not sure why you're being so critical.

cardibach · 23/04/2025 21:51

PandoraSoxx · 23/04/2025 18:03

No local elections here, so no Reform leaflets to deal with.

Meanwhile, I see some parts of MN are indulging themselves in a bit of casual homophobia vis-à-vis the stupid rumours about Starmer's sexuality. Remember how that was trotted out a while ago? He is a secret Muslim too. Or something.

I thought it was the King that’s a secret Muslim. Have I missed it being the PM too? See what happens when you have a lazy day watching fluffy drama on Netflix…

I’m being critical because you seem to have been lulled into voting for Reform, based on a whole series of claims that have not ben backed up by any sort of plan.

Stop making excuses like ‘not enough space to go into detail’. And I’d say that about any party.

So with all this in mind, tell us, truly, why you want to vote Reform?

ilovesooty · 23/04/2025 22:02

Evening all. Cat tax incoming. Tolkien looks more chilled out than I feel. I've found the site a depressing and frustrating experience lately.
