Birthday gift idea for a 3 year old?

My little boy will be turning 3 soon, he's already got a few gifts (robot toy, easel, leapfrog leapreader and some books to go with it, a memory game and a puzzle, one box of magnetic tiles) but I would like to get him more toys as he doesn't have that many in the house.

I was thinking of buying him his first proper lego or playmobil set (he only has duplo and playmobil 123) but he has a 1 year old sister, so it would have to be supervised at all times, so I'm not sure if it's worth it or if I should just wait until my daughter is older.

Any idea on what I could get him, please?

Besides toys, he already has a balance bike, a scooter, and a toniebox.

Thank you!!

Melissa and Doug ice cream counter had been one of the most consistently played with toys I've ever got.

I'd leave the Lego for another year

Remote control car

Super simple board or card games? Orchard Toys do some really simple ones. Easy craft sets/materials to craft basic things like cards for people etc? Playdough set? My DC1 got an ice cream play dough set at that age and loved it, and my DC2 is currently that age and loves it. They have a hairdressing set too which DC2 also enjoys. A Yoto if you're looking for a splurge item

My DN has just turned three. He’s really good with Lego but doesn’t have any younger siblings, so we don’t have to worry about anything being swallowed. Standing on it in bare feet is our biggest concern. He also loves proper glass marbles, and the marble runs, as well as those screwball scramble games. He’s a big fan of buckaroo, pop up pirate, a fishing game (the fish move on a round base plate, opening and closing their mouths, and you have to catch them). Smyths do a 40cm table football for £7 which is a bugger to assemble but is otherwise fantastic, highly recommended, and a table air hockey which is similar. He’s also likes Hotwheels. I’ll be honest, most of the Hotwheels sets are utterly crap quality and the cars never seem to do the loops they’re supposed to, but the trucks are fun and he’s got a remote control Megladon monster truck which he loves. It goes in water as well as on land (think deep puddles rather than ponds) and it occupies him for ages in the park. Very solidly made and stands up to being rammed into climbing frames and sent down slides.

For outdoor toys, he has footballs of every size and colour. He likes those rockets you stamp on and they shoot into the air. He has an outdoor mud kitchen and likes planting seeds with his mum.

He’s just coming out of the Thomas and Friends stage but this https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/pre-school-and-electronic-learning/thomas-and-friends/thomas-trackmaster-playsets/thomas-and-friends-track-set-trains-and-cranes-super-tower/p/197676 was a huge hit and played with constantly. Not bad considering he’d never heard of Thomas before we gave it to him. In fact, all of the Thomas stuff is pretty engaging and they even recognise and talk to each other now; it’s quite eerie. Next time you’re in Smyths, press the ‘try me’ button on one of the trains and the whole aisle will reply to you.

His current favourite thing in the world is a £2 whoopee cushion.

How could I forget?! He also has two doctors kits. One is a Bluey one and contains all the usual plastic tut, but the other one is this one and the stethoscope actually works! We’ve been teaching him about his organs and blood and bones etc and it’s been brilliant for him to listen to everyone’s heart.

What ever happened to a child receiving a birthday present? Singular? I presume that he will receive presents from other people as well. Sorry, I know that wasn’t your question, but it seems like a lot already , and could be overwhelming for a 3 year old.

Little tikes could be good - what was popular the lorry with 2 cars inside - my son sat on that and pushed with his legs, the lawnmower, and the dinosaur/ taxi little car (that was played with for years)

wow toys highly annoying to mums but all of mine loved them

hot wheels / train track with additional “lifting” gear

a Teddy they all still love 😬

Thomas remote control from 2 years (up and down)

ooooo hope you have lots of fun on your child’s b day.

Or a disco light for the bath or a remote control ship for the bath - those were big hits too

A toy cooker with pots & pans and some play food?

3 was the Brio year in this house, lots of trains, cranes, track, buildings, bridges. He's 7 now and it all still gets played with!
