Help! Didn’t take the bloody lamb out!

We have four people coming over for Easter dinner today and despite my partner and I both saying about 20 times over the course of the week “we must remember to take the lamb out of the freezer on Saturday”… we of course forgot 🤦🏻‍♀️ so dinner is to be eaten around 5.30pm, how the hell can I defrost a 2kg leg of lamb by then?! I’ve just raced downstairs and taken it out to put in a bowl of water, will it defrost if I keep doing that or is there a quicker method that I’m missing?

Stick it in the microwave on defrost?

Letsummercommence · 20/04/2025 07:02

You don’t need to defrost lamb. It’s not dangerous like pork or chicken.

You will need to increase the cooking time by half to make sure it’s not frozen in the middle.

BCBird · 20/04/2025 07:02

Google it. Apparently you can cook from frozen but increase time by 50 percent?

All I can add is that I've just done exactly the same with a beef joint 🤣.

Letsummercommence · 20/04/2025 07:03

Beef can be cooked from frozen too.

Yes - that will be the plan.

Elle771 · 20/04/2025 07:04

Put it in now on 140 covered in foil

MaltipooMama · 20/04/2025 07:05

Ah thank you for your replies, I am delighted to hear that all is not lost! Also that’s a great fact about it being less dangerous than pork and chicken, did not know that! I think I’ll probably increase the cooking time then as it’s too big to fit in the microwave to defrost unfortunately.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I feel your pain, I hope your beef also gets saved 😂

If it's wrapped in plastic I would put it in a sink of warm water to defrost. This seems to work really quickly, like ice in a drink.

Letsummercommence · 20/04/2025 07:21

@MaltipooMama You probably did know!

You can eat beef and lamb pink and bloody…you can’t with pork or chicken, it needs to be cooked.

You defrost food so that it cooks evenly and throughly. Bacteria is cooked and killed. You don’t want partially warmed up dangerous bacteria multiplying and eaten.

Happy Easter - hope it’s yummy !

So disappointed this thread wasn't about a farmer with a trashed house.

Stuff defrosts quicker in cold water doesn’t it?

MaltipooMama · 20/04/2025 08:23

@FigTreeInEurope sorry to disappoint 🤣

If you don’t want to cook it from frozen, put it in the sink or a bowl of water, and run the tap over it for about an hour. Just a trickle, keep moving things around so the water touches everywhere.

A lot quicker way to defrost than just sitting it in water.

hockityponktas · 20/04/2025 08:34

I would put it on to slow cook, maybe 140 or so for good few hours. Will be delicious!

frozendaisy · 20/04/2025 08:35

We had a similar must do must do with H's MOT this week, forgot to book in, luckily I can text our mechanic so did (on Good Friday garage closed) apologising and begging for an MOT slot. (We can take it Tuesday, to much hilarity from them and a box of biscuits from us,) Must Not Forget Tuesday!

Enjoy the lamb roast OP don't forget to put it in oven in good time!

Lambs too cute. Chicks can be tiny tykes tho, so don't put your eggs anywhere warm
