I've just made my first cuppa of the day & am waiting for it to cool to drinkable temperature. The kittens were well behaved this morning - no mountaineering - they both accompanied me to the loo at 5am, dove downstairs & then came back to snuggle in bed when they realised I hadn't followed. They've had their breakfast now & I can hear them elephanting about upstairs 🤣

I'm just going to sit for a little while & decide whether to go for a nap before I get dressed to head to Morrisons, with the world and his wife probably, for the Easter eggs that weren't bought yesterday while I was out with dd1 🙄.

Dd1 has no plans other than sleep in & I'm not sure about dd2. She'll find some revision notes or something for school to do probably.

Later on it'll be something easy for tea, before an early shower and nice early night for me 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam & the Saturday gang! Clock watching as I’m working very soon - wouldn’t normally be going in today but the store is closed tomorrow. It’s going to be a crazy one! Need to pop into town to go to Boots afterwards. So tired today. Got to bed much later than planned & didn’t go back to sleep when DH’s alarm went off at 6.15. Haven’t done much this morning but have got through 3 cups of tea, including one brought to me in bed by DH before he left for work. Meant to hoover up the rabbit poo. DH will do it later. Tea will be chicken curry (thank you Pataks) with basmati rice & possibly some poppadoms if I can be bothered to queue to buy them! Watching BGT then maybe a film.

Pancakeflipper · 19/04/2025 11:48

Good morning all (just).

Wanted a laze in reading my book but the person doing the rendering nextdoor went full power tool.

So I did the gym. My legs may thank me later.

Done the petshop so all the furries gave Easter treats (I know they don't need to know it's Easter but any excuse).

Off to sort out my hair. Theatre tonight with my youngest son.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/04/2025 11:52

Good morning (just) @lucysmam and everyone! I didn't get to sleep until around 2am and woke up around 7am, but that counts a quite a good night for me as I slept right through those 5 hours. Because I'm feeling well today I decided it would be an excellent idea to do something with the huge amounts of cheap veg I bought earlier in the week.

So - this morning I have:
Peeled, cooked and mashed about 5kg of potatoes, which will go into the freezer.
Peeled, cut and blanched 2kg of carrots to go into the freezer.
Prepared, sliced and blanched 3 leeks which were threatening to become unusable
Made a red cabbage coleslaw with 1/4 of a cabbage
Prepared and put in the slow cooker the ingredients for braised red cabbage using the rest of the cabbage. I don't like it, but it, and the coleslaw (which I do like) are going to my daughter. I have very reluctantly decided I definitely can't eat coleslaw any more. I knew it anyway but was in denial about it. My guts do not thank me for that.

I am now completely knackered and will need my nap this afternoon.

Talking about gigs/concerts you have missed.... When I was 17 or 18 and at college, a new band came to play at the nightclub I used to frequent. Tickets were 50p (it was 1978 I think) and I was feeling broke so I didn't go. They were The Police.

groovylady · 19/04/2025 11:54

Was up early, showered and at M&S for 8.45am to get a chicken and lamb joint for tomorrow.
Lovely and quiet.
Got home, put shopping away, put a laundry load on, made sure dc are doing their exam revision/assignments and am now on my bed scrolling mn and listening to podcasts.
Out later at the theatre so early dinner for us.
I'm hoping to get more of my novel read 📚

faerietales · 19/04/2025 11:59

Today has been really chilled but productive so far - it's been lovely.

DH had to work, so I had a lie-in and then got up to feed the animals.
Then I did some housework - vacuumed, changed the sofa blankets and swept and mopped the floors.
Followed by a coffee and a hot cross bun before washing up and taking the dog out for a sniffy walk.
Came home, put on a load of laundry and had a shower, before doing my hair, making another coffee and watching Lord of the Rings which has become my Easter Weekend tradition (watched The Hobbit yesterday).

I'm just about to get up and sort the animals' lunch as they're getting restless and the cats are meowing, then it'll be back on the sofa for the rest of the day!

snickersbarchild · 19/04/2025 12:17

DH and I just back from running some errands and dropping some homemade hot cross buns and some flowers over to our friends. DH is in his workshop making goodness knows what and the children are out washing an elderly friend's car for extra pocket money. Kids are making dinner later (gyoza!) so a relaxing afternoon just pottering.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 19/04/2025 12:17

We are all off to watch football this afternoon

Cheersmedears123 · 19/04/2025 12:53

Good afternoon! I’m a tad hungover after we had friends round for drinks last night. Silly me didn’t eat much which has contributed to how I’m feeling today. I had a mid-morning nap which helped and then DH made a nice brunch.

I’ve been for a walk to the shops for some fresh air and to grab a few Easter eggs (managed to get the last few!) and now I’m relaxing with a cuppa while DS plays and DH games. I think I’ll have a little tidy up in a moment then either read my book or watch some tv. Later this afternoon we’re all going to watch a family film together while we eat our eggs! Overall a very quiet Saturday.

Whattheduck · 19/04/2025 13:14

Afternoon all
I’ve had a busy morning up early and took the dog for a walk at a local park
Came home and myself and Dh went to Sainsbury’s to get a few bits
Dd has gone to meet a couple of friends in town then she’s working 2 til 10
Just hoovered downstairs and put a wash on
Dh has gone for a lie down as he’s full of cold
I’m watching last nights Coronation Street
Having an Indian takeaway for tea and probably watch a film

Well, I'm sitting in a side room in a hospital with my mum who has had a massive brain bleed. She isn't coming back from this. Shortly I'm going to go and rest for while so that I can come back and spend the night shift with her.

gingercat02 · 19/04/2025 13:27

Oh how sad @EducatingArti Hoping everything is peaceful 💔🥰

Natsku · 19/04/2025 13:29

Morning!
Didn't do much this morning, mostly just chatted with DS and read threads on mumsnet, but I did empty all the tools out of the van in preparation to go pick up a sofa bed someone was selling, and unbolted the balance beam we have in the playroom (as the sofa bed is going in that space). Went to pick it up down a very country road - one track on a grass/mud road with ditch either side so was worried someone might come the other way and we'd be stuck! But luckily no one came and we got the sofa bed.

Now having a cup of tea and writing my shopping list. Going to go to the shop soon to get the last things we need for Easter, and take the recycling to the recycling bins there. DD is watching something on her tablet, OH and DS are playing minecraft but soon I'm going to send DS upstairs to finish tidying his room.

Tonight I'm going to play Jackbox with my friends back in the UK, always good fun, after I watch an episode of X Files with DD.

I'm so sorry, your poor mum Sad

lucysmam · 19/04/2025 10:04

@TheLadyMaud who did you see?

It was an 80 th birthday concert for Ashley Hutchings, folk rock legend. So many members of folk royalty playing. It was very special

Taytocrisps · 19/04/2025 13:43

I had a busy morning so far. Got my hair cut and coloured at the hairdresser's. Two of my friends were there also (we hadn't planned it), so we had a quick natter. It felt like a scene from Steel Magnolias. Popped into a gift shop and picked up an Easter themed candle holder for my DSis as a gift. I already have an Easter Egg for her. Also picked up my lamb from the butcher's and meat for today's dinner.

My sister is dropping Dad off to me, but she's running late. I've fed Dcats their lunch and then I'll make a roll for myself. When my sister and Dad get here, we'll have some tea and scones/hot cross buns/biscuits and have a chat. I'll cook dinner at some point and then we'll get cosy and watch TV for the rest of the day. Dad is staying for the weekend, but my sister will head off at some stage.

princessspotify · 19/04/2025 16:11

@EducatingArti I'm very sorry😟I hope you have some support and your mum is peaceful

Notaflippinclue · 19/04/2025 16:17

Well it’s afternoon now so after a lovely brunch planting out some strawberry plants and listening to the birds - Easter eggs all sorted for grandchildren weeks ago clever me

DilemmaDelilah · 19/04/2025 16:53

@EducatingArti I'm so sorry. It must be such a difficult time for you.

Crunchymum · 19/04/2025 17:04

I don't want to tag you EducatingArti as I'm sure you have enough on your plate.

Sending you strength and fortitude. I hope you have all need (emotional and practical support / faith / a lifetime of happy memories of your mum) to get through this difficult time ❤

Crunchymum · 19/04/2025 17:09

I'm very late to the thread today.

Morning was a whirlwind of swimming lessons / food shopping / change library books / run around the park.

We're just back from a local Easter Egg hunt. The sun finally came out and I met some friends at the location so the afternoon has just flown by.

Home now and just going to make a quick tuna pasta salad. Will stick on a film later and hopefully everyone is nice and pooped for an early night.

** I've got left over curry and naan as I don't like tuna.

EducatingArti · 19/04/2025 21:38

Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers etc. I'm covering the night shift with her tonight. It's very calm and peaceful and I have a comfy recliner chair and I'm eating my weight in chocolate!

It is incredibly hot though!

DinoLil · 19/04/2025 21:58

Evening!
Hope you've all enjoyed your Easter Saturday.
Late to report in, but...
I've walked the dog. Washed down all the windows, cleaned leaves from drains, made up spare beds with clean linen, washed the dog, washed the turtle, had a go at picking up a few weeds (I usually use a weed burner but the shed has a web on it so I'm too pathetic to brush it away in case there's a tarantula inside). Brushed down the outside chairs. Washed throws and cushion covers. Scrubbed the mucky (my mucky) handprints from the walls with bleach - white walls and I balance myself coming down the stairs by bracing on the wall. Especially with dog desperate to charge past for breakfast 🙄
Now I can relax knowing I have tomorrow to put out towels, empty bins, put on the dishwasher and get an early night before my family arrive on Monday for a few days!
Stressed? Nah!! (YESSSS!)

DinoLil · 19/04/2025 22:04

@EducatingArti Oh. I'm so sorry to read this. I was posting away without reading other posts. This is when you realise just how strong you are, you can do this. You have to. For your mum and for you. Your time will come when you grieve and you can give yourself all the time in the world ro remember and love.

RabbitsRock · 20/04/2025 17:02

So sorry @EducatingArti 💐💐💐

EducatingArti · 20/04/2025 17:15

Thank you all for your care. She is in a deep coma now but seems peaceful enough.

I've come back to her home now to rest as I've suddenly hit a wall. I think she is passing into the nest stages towards death but it is hard to know how long she will go on for.
