I’ve banked with Loyds for years but having seen their latest stance I’m moving my money.

But where? Any suggestions?

Never had a problem with nationwide, it is a building society not a bank though so you wouldn't be able to take money out at the post office from your debit card.

PooksBear · 18/04/2025 17:29

Oh, what is their local stance?

Mainly supportive of green/environmental sustainability, politically neutral, they support diversity and inclusion for employees.

TuddlyCoy · 18/04/2025 17:37

Also about to close three accounts with Lloyds on the basis of this.

I take money out at the post office all the time with my Nationwide debit card

RareMaker · 18/04/2025 17:40

I'm sticking with Lloyds.

hattie43 · 18/04/2025 17:41

I’d recommend nationwide. No problems with them and they often give little bonuses, eg got £100 last year and £50 this year

QualiaDahlia · 18/04/2025 17:44

Nationwide is generally considered one of the more ethical banks in many ways.

Kitchensnails · 18/04/2025 17:45

Can you take cash out at machines with a Nationwide bank card?

PermanentTemporary · 18/04/2025 17:47

To me the point of the ruling is that all companies will need to consider how to comply with the law. No problem with companies supporting their staff who have transitioned, there's plenty of homophobia out there so people who don't conform to gender roles need the backing of their employer. I can't imagine a setting where having a trans member of staff seeing me would concern me less than at a bank. So am staying with Lloyds.

Yes, it's the same as any bank really.

SnoozingFox · 18/04/2025 18:20

But of course they should support their trans staff. Just as they should support all staff members irrespective of their sex, race or religion. They should take any reports of discrimination or bullying against any staff members very seriously. That's all this statement is saying - we've got your back, don't be thinking that this law means we'll turn a blind eye to people being horrible to you or bullying you.

Careful, you’ll be mauled for being even handed and reasonable round these ‘ere parts.

SnoozingFox · 18/04/2025 18:24

I don't believe a man can ever become a woman or vice versa and welcomed the ruling. I simultaneously support anyone's right to dress as they wish and live a life which is free from discrimination and bullying, whether at work or elsewhere.

It's ill advised virtue signaling.

In what was in essence an argument over whether trans rights trump women's rights, the Supreme Court has said, "trans rights don't trump women's rights" and Lloyds has said, "we stand with trans people".

The optics of that are really bad.

Oh you lucky sod, none of my three local ones have nationwide banking services so whilst I can use it to pay for items I can't take cash out.

baddrivers · 18/04/2025 18:27

Here we go. This ruling just means that people will be more open with their discrimination. A company supporting its employees isn’t a bad thing.

Multiple banks have openly discriminated against people with gender critical views, even going so far as to close their accounts, so perhaps they should ensure their own houses are clean as a matter of priority rather than making provocative gestures like this.

You can make withdrawals at the PO from a Nationwide account, but you can't make deposits in to an account. Unless it's something that certain PO branches don't offer.

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 18/04/2025 18:37

Didn't see them standing up for women when their rights were being eroded in favour of trans rights.

I agree in essence as long as their "supporting trans rights" isn't to the detriment of women's rights.......Which is how all this started

Be aware the Lloyds banking group is quite large I believe it also includes: the Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Scottish Widows.
P.S I bank with Nationwide, I can't fault them

And I'm sure they would have given the same assurance to women had the SC judgement gone the other way. Not.

TheBerry · 18/04/2025 18:52

Out of interest, what do you WANT them to do with their trans staff?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/04/2025 18:53

Glad to hear all the recommendations for Nationwide because I bank with them and can't switch so I'm stuck with them for better or worse.
