So my 19 year old heads of to the Algarve this weekend, first time he’s been abroad, heading with his cousins. I won’t lie this week I’ve been a mess worrying god knows what I’ll be like when he goes on Saturday.

Hes a sensible lad, doesn’t really drink much, doesn’t really go out tbh more a home bird. But all doesn’t stop me worrying and yes I know need to cut the apron strings, I’ve got a daughter but she’s miss independent and never here, my sons very much a mummy’s boy lol so we’re much closer.

Should I be worried? I’m hoping once he actually does go the worry subsides a bit.

Yeah it’s an uneasiness but he’s been warned I want constant updates

Please don't demand updates! He's having fun with his friends and shouldn't be thinking about his mum. Me and my mates went to Spain aged 17 in 1992. My parents didn't hear from me for two weeks and I had the time of my life. If I'd had to continually contact my mum it would have ruined my holiday.

My 20 year old is going to hong kong and china tomorrow with mates, I just asked that he texts me to say he got there ok, that he lets me know he's alive occasionally and that he confirms what time his flight is landing in the UK so we can pick him up!

Your son will be fine - but move away from the constant updates and hopefully you will have a great week off doing something nice xx

Yeah guys I’m not gonna demand constant updates I was just giving him the worried mum speech he knows I’m messing, he will be grand I’m sure, it’s cutting them damn apron strings ya know, you never know how attached to them you get.
