Windows 10 is ending

Microsoft are sending me notifications about the end of Windows 10. My old laptop is too old to enable the upgrade to Windows 11 and I can’t afford to buy a new one.

So, my little laptop won’t be getting any software security updates from October onwards. Will McAffee and Norton provide the protection I need?

Yes my lap top was very old and I got similar warnings about windows 10.

I just recently bit the bullet and bought a new lap top because I was concerned about the security issues too.

The new lap top is brilliant compared to my old one - which tbh was having battery issues and had to be kept plugged in all the time. But it's an expense I could really really have done without.

Can't answer your question OP but I totally sympathise.

I'd suggest binning both and installing a non-intrusive, free AV service like Avira. Both McAffee and Norton are horrendous bloatware, invasive, a pest to get rid of, and more about convincing the user they need this or that and an upgraded subscription than actually doing anything worthwhile.

If your laptop is a bit creaky anyway, it will likely be rejuvenated by simply dispensing with these resource hogs.

Thanks for the replies. Avira sounds good. My laptop was cleaned out and upgraded about 3 years ago so I’ll delete a lot excess stuff and clear as many cookies as I can.
