Neighbour

Hiya,

I didn't know where to post this.

We have recently moved into a new house (survey done etc) the neighbour just knocked on our door angry complaining there was a puddle by her front door from the rain and it's our fault due to our drive and saying she's taking us to court.

Apparently she had arguments with previous owner because it apparently started flooding her house and was getting rising damp but it was sorted. This was years ago. She moaned saying we need to rip all our drive up and start again because it's wrong and we are the cause for a puddle being at her front door. By the way she has no drains there and she has steps to her front door. She asked us to turn our drain in our garden ( no where near her front house ) towards ours which we did.

I looked for a puddle outside her house and I couldn't see it...

I'm in shock and I don't really know what to do? Can she really take us to court for that? I feel this is going to be an endless issue.

just ignore her

ThejoyofNC · 16/04/2025 16:08

Just tell her to get lost. She obviously got nowhere with the previous owner and thinks you're her latest target.

stayathomegardener · 16/04/2025 18:47

Omgoodness there was a long running thread on here years ago, exactly this neighbour situation.

WonderingWanda · 16/04/2025 18:51

She can try, just shut the door in her face until you get a letter from her solicitor. When you do promptly direct it to the solicitors who did your conveyancing along with any documentation you have which shows the sellers declared no issues with the property. You haven't caused anything by the way and she sounds batshit.

I remember that, I think the OP was called muddy puddles or something similar.

stayathomegardener · 16/04/2025 18:55

@ThejoyofNCI recall there was an adjoining alleyway between those properties.

DrummingMousWife · 16/04/2025 18:56

She is a lonely trouble maker, ignore it.

Eggsboxedandmelting · 16/04/2025 19:01

Make her a sign. Hand it over.
NO RAIN ALLOWED HERE...
And don't engage again. Ever..

I'm glad that I am not the only person remembering this!

MissMoneyFairy · 16/04/2025 19:04

What do you mean you turned your drains? Just ignore her. If there were issues with the previous owners it should have been declared.

SquishyGloopyBum · 16/04/2025 19:10

Did the seller declare a neighbourhood dispute op? They should have done.

id ignore. I imagine they are empty threats about court.

If there was a dispute, ndn might just be threatening. There will be a paper trail if any remedial work was done or any insurance claim.

Wasn't that the one who was pulled because it turned out to be fake? Water was runnung onto the batshit neighbours property even though they were higher than OP.
The neighbours family were trying to intimidate the OP, a single mum and her dd, The shared alley way was blocked off and all sorts of weird shit was happening.
Turned out it was total crap,
