Why is it called the school run?

Because it’s when you “run” to school to drop off/pick up kids?
Like I would also say I’m just going to run to the shop - I’m not actually running there it just means I’m quickly popping to the shop and back

yeah that’s an obvious answer but I was confused why it was called “run” because you’re not running there

Hang around outside school 1 minute before the doors close. Quite a lot of people are running……

It's just a word for taking someone or something somewhere, if I gave someone a lift into town in my car I'd say I was running them into town. Or if you regularly go to the shop for milk you might say you were on the milk run.

Depending on how many kids you have! 🤣 you are not running there but by the time I get my 3 kids out of the house (on time!!) with all their gear and lunches and reminders to not lose anything it does feel like I have run a marathon! 🤣

Danikm151 · 15/04/2025 12:44

Because the parents run away with joy after the kids are inside 😂
A run is a colloquial term for a journey. Tip run, school run, run to the shops etc

Marmite27 · 15/04/2025 12:46

It’s using the word ‘run’ as shorthand for journey. Relatives of mine talk about talking a run out to the coast - they’re definitely not actually running!
