When and where to eat in Bristol?

11 year old DS has hospital appointments in Bristol about 2-5 times a year which is about 90 minutes drive from us. We normally make a bit of a trip of it, have lunch at pizza hut, mooch round the shops etc.

This time we have been stuck inside for 2 weeks and I'm desperate to leave the house. I'm laws are looking after the other dc which is a rare thing.

Appointments are 12:30 and 2:15 at the BRI. Really want to have a nice lunch or tea out but can't work out how/when/where. Can anyone recommend somewhere not too expensive/similar price to pizza hut? Not sure whether to have lunch at 11:30, 3:00 or try and rush something in between appointments. Not even sure if you can have lunch in a restaurant that isn't McDonalds at those times.

Could you have brunch and / or afternoon tea?

This place is open all day for food and is fairly near the hospital. The dining space is great but I’m afraid I haven’t eaten there in a while.

Ooh, good idea. Thank you, I was worried I would have to go to McDonald's!

Zero Degrees is just up from the hospital- it’s a micro brewery/pizza/pasta type place. Just round the corner on Park Street you have Moltobuono- an independent Italian restaurant that is excellent! Pizzarova at the bottom of Park Street does good pizza too- but much more casual. Can finish with excellent chocolate cake in Mrs Potts as an extra treat! Or fab cakes at Ah Toots at the bottom of Christmas Steos ( facing hospital). Around Park Street you will also find Boston Tea Party, Eat A Pitta, Nando’s etc for more casual food. Lots of options in this area. The Harbourside and Whapping Wharf have more options if you want a little walk. Whapping Wharf has a mixture of takeaways and sit-ins, all independent and excellent! There’s Greek, Indian, Mexican, a chippy, excellent bakery- everything is available. And it’s lovely to walk around the Harbouside when weather is good, to get away from it all.

I can second Pizzarova. Excellent pizzas.

If you're looking for somewhere cheap, cheerful and that does food all day then there's the Commercial Rooms on Corn Street. It is a Wetherspoons but the building is lovely. It's just across the centre from the BRI so not too far.

My similar aged kids really liked ZaZa Bazaar. They are open for lunch from 12 to 4.45.

We also love Zaza bazaar. Something for everyone there

Zaza’s is great for kids - eat all you want buffet, loads to choose from, live cooking stations and the ice cream machine and chocolate fountain always goes down well!

St Nicholas market has lovely food stalls. It's about a ten minute walk from the BRI. There's also a nice cafe called Penfolds directly opposite the BRI (open till 3pm). Sandwich, Sandwich is very popular too (not my favourite but very popular for a takeaway lunch). Woodes on Park street is a nice cafe. Loads of food choices in cabot circus (about 20 minute walk). Za za bazaar is popular too.
