Anything I can order on audible that won’t give me a sleepless night?

I’ve just downloaded the Wrong Sister. Huge mistake 😀 the readers voice is so creepy I can only listen to it in the day time.

Ive just finished Liane Moriarty The Last Anniversary and hated it. I was preparing for the tv adaption but won’t bother now. I feel like she’s like Marion Keys about hit and miss. These are the kind of authors I generally like though. I’m going through treatment so I need something to take me to a positive place.?Any ideas?

Are you listening to them as you fall asleep or during the day? If the former, I recommend a podcast called The Sleepy Bookshelf. The host narrates books in sections, recapping at the beginning of each episode as you’ll likely have fallen asleep partway through. I set my sleep timer so it only plays one episode at a time (roughly 45mins) and that way I don’t skip too far ahead and miss bits of the story.

Have you listened to any books by Jojo Moyes? I listen to audiobooks to go to sleep every night. I have read all of the M Keyes books and many of Liane Moriaty’s - totally agree she really lost form!

I have just finished ‘we all live here’ .. (Jojo Moyes) … upbeat but with some challenging times with kids / family etc… humour, self reflection. Nothing too deep but v much kept me engaged.

Hi EachandEveryone! I also listen to audiobooks to fall asleep.
I tried the calming music etc and it made me so alert and wired.😳☺️I never listen to anything I haven’t read or heard before because if I become interested in the topic or story I’m awake all night.

I ‘listen’ most often to books from the Golden Age of Crime eg Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham on YouTube if I can find versions without advertising breaks.
My current listen is a Nora Roberts, Northern Lights. I have listened to it properly a few times before so i doesn’t engage my brain.
If I wake up and there is silence I am instantly awake so I need something burbling along in the background.

i hope you get some sleep soon. 😴

You know you can return any you don't like, for any reason?

EachandEveryone · 27/04/2025 21:45

I really enjoyed Tom Lake, narrated by Meryl Streep. It's really quite a boring story, but sounds wonderful read by her, and is very descriptive.

I also enjoyed Frankie by Graham Norton.

Thank you so much for the return tip. I didn’t know this and now I’ve just done so! Funnily enough I’ve just finished the Wrong Sister today. I really enjoyed it. On the recommendations here I have just bought the Jojo Moyes one with my returned credit.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/04/2025 22:12

I listen to the Sherlock Holmes stories, narrated by Derick Jacobi as my fall aslrrp
book.

MoltenLasagne · 27/04/2025 22:13

I downloaded the complete Sherlock Holmes collection to listen to when falling asleep. Narrated by Stephen Fry and about 70 hours worth for 1 credit made it a bargain. Plus very easy to pick up again when you've fallen asleep ten minutes into a chapter. I then end up getting the PG Wodehouse collection for much the same reason.

CurlyCabbage · 27/04/2025 22:21

Agatha christie books- poirot or marple. Very old school, easy listening and ‘cosy’. Another vote for magpie murders and also the follow up moonflower murders.

nothing in any of these books has ever scared or upset me or made me too emotional or cry..and I cry VERY easily.

Charliecatpaws · 27/04/2025 22:23

Anything narrated by Stephen Fry, his voice is sooo soothing
