Ridiculous boast, but my laundry bin is empty

The only things that will eventually need washing in the near future are the clothes that I'm wearing and the newly put out tea towel

I bow at your feet 🧺

In the bottom of my laundry basket I have:

A red sweatshirt that will run like mad and needs its own wash with nothing else.

A sequinned top from Christmas 😳 that needs hand washing.

A woolly jumper - also needs hand washing. I'm going to say that's been in there for at least 8 months.

I see these 3 items regularly when I've tackled the normal stuff and think "oh, piss off!"

Ha! I can relate… I see your festive sequinned top and raise you a pair of sprout-themed and brightly coloured Christmas pyjamas that also need hand washing… Grin

That’s photoshop, or AI.

Hmmm. Still not quite following.

Duvet covers languish in a stack until it is time to fulfill their Fabric Duty and be put over duvets.

Irons are for Hama beads and decals, right?

Old school me, I’m afraid.

BuntyBeaufort · 14/04/2025 22:06

I applaud you op.
One of the most satisfying sounds in my life is the clang of the first dirty item landing in my steel washbin.

canthavethatonethen · 14/04/2025 23:12

Getting to the bottom of the laundry basket is one thing. Getting to the bottom of the ironing pile you've created is something else entirely.😂

lostfather666 · 20/04/2025 07:08

I get bottom of mine often and I'm a father

SardinesOnGingerbread · 20/04/2025 07:26

I salute you, ma'am. Mark this date in the diary for it shall never happen again.

rosie1873 · 20/04/2025 07:34

I use Dr Beckmann colour run remover and it works for me every time. Nothing runs.

Really happy to sign this task over to you 😁

Respect!

LoafofSellotape · 20/04/2025 07:56

I have ditched our laundry basket and solved the problem completely!

Brokeandold · 20/04/2025 08:19

At the bottom of our laundry bin up stairs is our 2nd DS’s work shirt and fleece, he worked in a shop from age 16, through his first year of A levels, a bit in his 2nd year -Covid happened.
The shop shut down so didn't return the clothes, I could put them in the fabric recycling bin ( remove shop logo of course!)
but I cant seem to let them go….

and to save on ironing hang all your clothes on the line on hangers - I probably iron 8 things a year using this method!! Saves time when you are putting it away too - honestly - game changer and you can fit twice as much washing on the line… (although the idea did come to me from another Mumsnetter a good few years ago!

MrsPositivity1 · 20/04/2025 08:33

The bottom of the ironing basket is where I hid treats for myself as no-one ever looks near it apart from me Smile

I can’t remember the last time I saw my laundry basket. My OH has always done this mind-numbing chore

Yes

Even then, the washing basket is rarely empty

I'm normally waiting for enough of one colour to end up in there before I can start a wash

Whites. I'm looking at you guys 🧐

I've stopped separating washing now, there's no need, it's very rare anything runs these days. Makes it much easier.

Yes, I always had things like this, some of them probably needed dryceaning too. The hand/gentle wash items always stayed there for ages waiting for a full load and some of those that would run in the wash never left the baske. Some things must have been there for at least 20 years by the time we moved house, at which time I threw away the smelly woven grass basket and the contents. Now I'm retired I only wear easily washable clothes, other than a very few special occasion outfits, so there is no need for things to hang around. If only I could get rid of the odd socks....

Mikart · 20/04/2025 12:03

I've got 3 loads out this morning. We've had 2 different sets of visitors this werk so lots of bedding/ towels
