was driving on a narrow busy road, with daughter in passenger seat. bus on side of road. I slowed but it appeared to be parked so I went to go on. then it pulled forward so I stopped to give way. the bus driver was clearly angry, leaned out of his cab gesticulating and shouting. appeared to be motioning for me to pass. as I moved forward he started doing an exaggerated sarcastic clapping motion, as if to indicate my stupidity. my daughter was defensive because she is 18 and a middle aged man is being rude to her mum. so she mimicked his clapping back at him. as we drew level with his cab, he leant out and punched the passenger window. I THINK he was trying to punch my daughter in the face/head. he didn't really have time to assess that the window was closed I don't think.

we pulled over and photographed the bus number plate, as it passed us. then he pulled over and took a photo of us! I'm really uneasy that he has our car reg etc. it was quite scary. imo it fits the definition of common assault but police are quite disinterested. bus company said they will look into it, but it is now a private internal affair. I don't really know what I expect/want to happen. but it doesn't feel ok that a bus driver can do this

I had similar while a passenger on a bus. He carved up a car on a large roundabout and clipped it's wing and then behaved in a threatening way to the woman driver (she was visibly scared) - the bus passengers had to hang on to their seats. When we arrived at the bus garage, I took a photo of the bus number plate and the driver sitting in the cab with a view to reporting him. He lost his temper with me....to cut a long story short, when I reported him, Arriva just said he no longer worked for them and hung up on me. They didn't want a witness statement or anything. Good luck - I wouldn't let it drop as someone with that temper shouldn't be in charge of a bus!

The bus company will most likely deal with this quite severely - he is a big risk to them.

A useful lesson to your daughter, too - never ever engage with maniacs in the grip of road rage!!!! However tempting it is, it's not worth it.

What you described fits the definition of assault but it also feels as if you are missing something from the story. Were there people on the bus? When you realised it was moving were you already overtaking? Most buses windows are an awkward shape and higher than your average car which would have made punching your window really awkward, are you sure it was a fist?

He can't do anything with your car registration, so don't worry about that.

Agree - and I'm sure he'll be dealt with by the company. They need drivers with even tempers.

I hope so. I am surprised that they don't want to reassure of us that. I would be reluctant to get on a bus again, in case he was driving

They won't say anything that suggests any liability. What they do internally you will never be told. It's not very reassuring though.

I'm sure he won't drive for them again - they won't want to take the risk.

They won't tell you anything - it's an internal disciplinary matter, as it should be.
