Best flight snacks

I'm always starving on flights and can't bare plane meals. I've got a 7 hour flight coming up. Can anyone recommend good plane snacks I could take that don't take up too much room and aren't too stodgy? Thank you.

Also any tips for reducing the weight of my suitcase would be great. It's not overweight but I'd like it to be as light as possible as I'm going to and from the airport on public transport. Thank you.

Pot noodle or any of those rice/cous cous type plastic cups and just ask for hot water on the flight
Sandwiches
Fruit
Cereal bars

You can specify specific diets on planes. I somehow ended up with 'seafood meal' on a long haul flight, so every meal had seafood in it. No idea how that happened. Some airlines have more options, other than the religious ones, I've also seen 'fruit platter', 'low purine', 'raw diet' etc!

Where are you travelling to OP? Is it a work conference, a beach holiday, family visit etc? Are there washing facilities there? This might sway how we recommend you pack. I agree though with wearing your heaviest shoes/trousers/jacket on the plane.

It's a city break. Should be pretty warm but not boiling.

Dh and I went on a 6 hour flight with no meals or food offered! Didn’t believe it was possible to not even have a snack trolley 😱
just got a sandwich each from pret, you could get one of those - you don’t need an endless supply of snacks! Add a pastry or something if you think you’ll need it.
Usually though if we are there all of us as a family we’ll have a proper breakfast or whatever meal at the airport and then get what we fancy from the trolley. At least airports have a range of restaurants (well, the ones we fly from do but Heathrow and Gatwick are bigger than others I appreciate) whereas when you’re on the plane the choices are more limited!

I know I don't need an endless supply of snacks but I want them 😁

In all seriousness I once made the mistake of taking no snacks on a 10 hour flight and the food was so disgusting on the meal service that I was ravenous by the time I landed. I won't make that mistake again. By the time I'd got to a restaurant I hadn't eaten in about 15-16 hours. Doable but not nice.

This is such an exciting thread. Love a holiday planning thread. Snack a Jack's (I known they'll stink), grapes (nice red ones), apples, almonds, flapjacks, can you take a freeze freezeable cooler block? Then you pack yoghurts/ sandwiches. And take one of those small squeezey squash bottles so you can have orange/ blackcurrant drinks,
And hand wipes.

We had samosa chaat and chai at the airport and then I’d made little baguettes with olives, tomato and thin salami for our flight as we landed late with all the restaurants closed.

I usually take a filled roll or rye bread sandwich ( denser and less squash).

Fruit - berry selection. Satsuma. Apple

Shortbread biscuits

own water bottle, as plane offer teeny tiny cups.

I always eat the plane food but you can buy sandwiches airside at most airports.

Otherwise take things lile crackers, crisps, biscuits and fruit (nb make sure you eat the fruit if yiu are going to somehere like the USA - I forgot last time and had to eat an apple in super quick time while queueing to leave the plane).

On reducing packing - wear your heaviest clothes and shoes (I always travel in jeans, trainers and the jacket/heavy cardie I want to take), if you need a second pair of shoes take light ones - ballet flats, light pumps like converse or superga etc.., layer up rather than taking bulky items, decant make up and toiletries in to small bottles and pots.

Take bar soap rather than then shower gel, takes up less space, won’t spill and weighs next to nothing. I also buy solid shampoo bars which can be used to wash clothes like swimsuits. My husband plans a t shirt for each night then Wears it the following day so he takes half the amount of tops.
