Has anyone sold their wedding dress online?

Looking to declutter and make some money. I have a wedding dress from the late 2000’s that was dry cleaned and boxed. Before I take it out I was wondering if it would be worthwhile selling online. Has anyone had any success? Are there any tips? The dress originally cost £1200 and had additional beading added to the bodice. From a wedding dress designer but not a big name.

My dd bought a dress online She was watching a specific dress from a specific designer on “still white” It was originally released in 2019 for 10k? Or more. Crazy I know. She started to observe it was showing up less frequently so finally bought one from a woman who really hadn’t marketed it well and was willing to really really lower her price. It was perfect well preserved and it’s lovely The expense to ship it was 100$ It is very heavy. I think your dress may be too old and not in demand. Also shipping is a real consideration. It has to be perfect and you will need very high quality pics both far away and up close. All damages even the tiniest little stain on the underside of the hem need to be photographed and described. It’s alot of work and “still white” keeps track of how long something has been listed and many take 12+ months to sell

Thanks so much @Lavenderandbrown that’s really useful to know. I was wondering if the dress would be considered too old and with it not being a prominent designer, it won’t be sought after.

I’m in a different time zone. Sorry for the delay. I see you aren’t getting a lot of responses ☹️ I would try a Facebook marketplace or local listing rather than a more global based site. I think the resale is very low. Her dress was Monique Lhuillier. She was able to track original price and date released and watch some dresses sell and see what they sold for. DD is very tiny Some were listed as 0 or 2 but the bride was clearly tall in the pics and knew many alterations would be needed. She ended up with a dress that is actually a bit small across the shoulder blades. Just won’t quite button but we know a male seamstress who does many dresses and he can make it fit. It’s a very very Kate Middleton/ Catherine of Wales style but not so white corset look. Still a poplar look

Thank you for coming back to me and for your insight. I think my dress was very much the fashion for its time and when I’ve browsed dresses from the designer nothing similar is coming up on stillwhite. It seems such a waste of money in hindsight and perhaps I should have sold it straight away. I’m now wondering whether it’s better to give it to a charity shop and allow someone else to view it in person than to try to sell online. It may be more hassle than it’s worth. I think I’ll show it to my daughters. Allow them to try it on and photograph them in it then donate it to a good cause.

Should anyone read this thread, I’ve just come across this website which sounds like a great place to do at a wedding dress to:
