What's the worst thing a hotel has got wrong for you?

I've been quite lucky I think.

I once had booked a late check-out and the staff knocker and woke me up. I was so annoyed as I don't sleep well anyway and had been to a festival that didn't end until about 02:00 the previous night hence paying for the late check-out in the first place!

Another time went away with a new ish partner and the loo didn't flush. Rather embarrassing. It did after several attempts but not great.

Someone stole my wedding shoes from our suite. They were the only shoes I had with me so I had to walk into town in the hotel slippers to buy some trainers. Never got my shoes back.

@SapporoBaby I am so sorry that happened. That’s awful.

My former landlord threw my wedding shoes away while we were in the process of moving out. We were on a run to move stuff to our new place and i left my wedding shoes in a box in the lounge intending to come back, do one last check / any last minute cleaning and then take them with us in the car and when I got back he’s been in and threw them in with some other stuff he took to the tip.

I feel your pain.

At a 5* hotel in Kenya, no water for hours over several days, unable to wash, flush the toilet etc., Complained numerous times to reception and the holiday rep. Our entire block was affected. Just constantly told it was a local water supply problem. We even had to barricade the door to the poolside toilets so we could shower properly! Then we discovered the other block had no water problems, simply by talking to other guests. They finally had to accept it was a fault on the supply to our specific block and not the local supply problems they'd claimed. Got quite a hefty compensation payment after we took them to court.

Then a hotel in The Gambia that was literally a building site. There were 3 wings and two of them were still being refurbished - our wing had just been "finished". Layers of dust everywhere, even in our room, no carpets in the hallway or staircases, electric switches/sockets not properly screwed back into the walls, when we opened the balcony door, it fell out as it hadn't been hung on it's runners properly! Another court case and another healthy compensation refund!

On a holiday in Menorca, we came back to the room after a day trip and found the room completely stripped of our stuff and made up ready for new guests. The housekeepers had made a mistake and just removed all our stuff, which they never found, so we had to go out and buy a load of new stuff. Guess what - another compo claim.

All three were Thomson holidays (now Tui!).

Booked a holiday to Spain in March - it just happened to be the worst snowstorm for about 20 years in the Costs Brava so Girona airport was closed and we had to fly out 2 days late. I tried to phone the hotel and emailed both the hotel itself and the main office to let them know. However when we got to the hotel they didn't have a room for us. They were very kind and looked after us for a couple of hours while they moved out a couple of staff who were staying in the hotel because the town had no electricity (the hotel had a generator). Really rubbish room tbough, and right next to a room full of partying teenagers.
