This is the one I use (with Virgin as well).

We have a TP Link booster. They’re the best ones

Ours is more like this one

Need WiFi booster
Puglife1234 · 13/04/2025 12:04

Are they really easy to install ?

We have a tp link as well - plug it into a wall socket, press the WiFi link button on it and your router, and they hook up.

Ah thank you so much
that does sound very easy
might go and get one now 🤣

Consider why your bedroom is so bad, particularly as you already have boosters
Could it be the type of brickwork and a particularly solid area, or part of the property has had an extension with former external walls inside or two properties knocked into one etc
It could also be interference from other electricals or a combination

You can try repositioning the existing boosters to see if they can make a better ‘path’
eg instead of placing boosters midway, place them in a direction - such as aligning with doorways

An alternative to ‘standard’ boosters which repeat the signal is a wired network (no need to install network cables these days, but to use a powerline system which runs through the electrical system
(note that if there are multiple sets of wiring in a building then this may not work - eg if it had been an extension / knock through)

Look up ‘powerline adaptors’ - the price range can vary.
Where possible use an Ethernet cable into the powerline adaptor - eg at your virgin router plug in one adaptor to the mains and a cable from the router to the adaptor
Then in the bedroom just plug in a wifi powerline adaptor (or in the hall if it works to get the wider benefit upstairs)

…….

A non hardware solution is to experiment with wifi frequencies, your router should have multiple options and can probably run more than one at a time
For example 2.4ghz and 5ghz

5ghz is generally the ‘better’ for higher speed etc, but is a weaker signal with less range
2.4ghz is slower, but with a longer range

Check your router settings and switch on the dual band option, that would give you two networks to connect to. Try each of them in different rooms - and possibly combine dual bands with the routing of extenders to compare results

Back in the day, WiFi routers used to all have directional aerials that could be pointed in particular directions

This is less common with many providers routers just being a box. You can potentially try twisting it in a different direction, laying it flat, stood up etc
If the cable is long enough try moving the router further into the house, opposite a door etc - it may be on the front wall for convenience of the fitter rather than the best signal strength around the house

Your existing boosters may have aerials. Don’t just point an adjustable aerial towards the router but try tipping it parralel with the line of sight to the router

Wow thank you so much.
with virgin we have 3 boosters.
we do t really know what to do with them
they don’t make a difference.
the house is a really old cottage with very thick walls.
the bedroom and conservatorie are extensions and a long way from the box.
we have never done anything with the virgin routers. They didn’t seem to work so we just put them in a cupboard.
thank you so much.

Gosh I’m so embarrassed.
I have took your advice and repositioned the 2 virgin boosters until I got a better connection.
I placed one in the far side of the kitchen and one in the conservatorty
i have for the first time got WiFi in both rooms v
i won’t tell you how many years this has taken. Thanks so much.

I was with Virgin for over 15 years. Rubbish connection in the living area and upstairs, and we were paying WAY too much. To be honest, I only stuck with them because the thought of changing was even more stressful. Then I asked Virgin for boosters and they said I would have to pay extra and it would also bump my bill up by an additional £30 a month so I bit the bullet and changed providers.
It was so darned easy to do! Brand new fibre connection at no cost, half the monthly fee, superb connection. Wish I'd done it years before.

Awesome news OP. It's always the silly little things in life that trip us up and who knew just changing an angle would change the results so much. Enjoy your "new" WiFi!
