Seaside break 12-13 degrees. What to pack?!

The joy of pacing for a UK break with kids! 🙄

Forecast is 12-13 degrees, light wind, and a bit of light rain. Yorkshire seaside town.

I really don't want to pack more than we need, but also don't want us all cold and miserable!

Please help, my brain is too frazzled and tired to make rational choices (hence booking a UK beach break in April!).

That’s jumpers and coats weather.
If you are staying in a caravan I’d also suggest taking a portable heater of some sort. Ask me how I know!

TropicofCapricorn · 12/04/2025 17:07

Jumpers. Coats and hats I'd say.

The breeze off the North Sea will be perishing at this time of year, so plenty of layers including windproof.

Layers. Lots of layers. And waterproofs

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/04/2025 17:09

Fleeces, vests and long sleeve tops to layer up
hats
light raincoats
thick socks for indoors

faerietales · 12/04/2025 17:09

You'll need layers and waterproofs. The wind will be bloody cold.

Just come off the beach in Norfolk and it was breezy. We had fleeces on, windbreaker in the sand with our picnic. Inland was lovely,

rosydreams · 12/04/2025 17:13

remember it feels colder on the coast so its jeans and jumpers weather

backtickles · 12/04/2025 17:15

Has been 18c here, glorious in my back garden. Drove to a garden centre in Hornsea, was nippy in my jeans and t shirt. 12-13c would be big coat weather still.

Thanks all.

We went one time in the easter holidays, in a static caravan and we got SNOW. I think I'd actually blocked that from my memory!

We'll be in a hotel so that's good at least.

I was leaning to taking coats and jumpers etc but then hesitated as I'll be carting everything on the train! And it's been soo nice here today, lovely and warm and sunny (inland).

Will definitely pack lots of layers.

I live by the sea side.
Be prepared for ever changing weather. layers, jumpers, and blankets but also set of summery clothes just in case.

rosydreams · 12/04/2025 17:19

you need one of these if your finding it hard to carry to much

I'm by the sea (Cumbria) - we had ice on the roads a few days ago when DH went to work at 7.30am. By lunchtime it was t-shirt weather but by 4-5pm you needed jumpers again. As soon as you're out of the sun or the wind picks up, you feel it. It can be bloody cold.

Lookuptotheskies · 12/04/2025 17:19

Teraculum29 this is the problem with the UK weather isn't it. You can get every season in one day's weather! 🤦

I will definitely go with layering.

I live on the south west coast and my grandchildren will be here this week. They always bring wellies for the beach if it's too cold for bare feet - then they can still paddle. Waterproof coats, warm hats and gloves are essential too, especially if it's a northerly or easterly wind. Don't forget the suncream for better days!
