I litterally don’t know anyone who’s suitable. The only professionals I know are baby’s grandparents , aunties etc so that won’t work. I have a few friends but they aren’t professionals😅

what do I even do in this situation! My mum had an old friend of hers do mine when I was younger who she’s not in contact with anymore😒

What do all your friends do for jobs? Usually people who say they don't know anyone who can sign have a very narrow interpretation of the rules.

AntiHop · 11/04/2025 18:52

Do any of your friends own a business?

Choconuttolata · 11/04/2025 18:52

Health visitor? GP? GP might charge for the service.

Any of your neighbours?
They don't need to be on the list as they can be of 'good standing in the community' too
Hairdresser, shop owner, etc

Arghhh please don't quote the op. There's no need. It makes threads really hard to read.

TwentyTwentyFive · 11/04/2025 18:54

This comes up all the time and it doesn't have to be someone on the list, just someone of good standing so it's vanishingly unlikely that you don't actually know someone who could sign it.

Neighbours
People from work
Friends and or their partners
People in the community you've known for years

The possibilities are endless

GP needs to know you personally and are on the list for not being eligible if you are just their patient

PickledElectricity · 11/04/2025 18:54

Do grandparents and aunties have friends who have met you?

I've never done that before! I totally agree about not quoting the OP, no idea why I did. I'm fully in support of the requests on Site Stuff to make it impossible to do so.

FelloffaCliffedge · 11/04/2025 18:57

It’s all done online now so it can be someone from your past. That just need to have known you for 2 years.
Do any of your old school friends/ex neighbours work for NHS, Council, civil service, police, own a business like hairdresser, restaurant, shop?
What about you or DPs manager or ex mananger?
Neighbours?

ncforschoolhelp · 11/04/2025 19:00

Agree with PP; vanishingly unlikely you don't know anyone.

DappledThings · 11/04/2025 19:04

Every single time this thread comes up it goes the same way. OP claims they know nobody who can sign, various posters ask about the jobs their friends have and explain why many of these would be valid, OP refuses to explain why they haven't/still refuse to ask these people then vanishes.

I've never seen one where OP actually fully engages and uses the suggestions they are given.

Dp owns his own business with no staff so no one from his work unfortunately

one of my friends is a carer (not nhs)
the other 2 work in a nursery

we moved house a few weeks ago so don’t know any neighbours yet as it’s new builds and they’ve not been bought. Where I used to live I was friendly with a neighbour she was a carer for nhs. She met baby before we left and we’ve known her for a few years since she moved in. I don’t have her contact though and I don’t know if she’d find it weird if we went round and knocked on the door?😂

Dp mums boyfriend originally did it for us. He’s not on her mortgage and not married , works for nhs doing computer things (not sure what but he has a degree in it) they came back with sorry the person you asked to confirm identity does not meet the criteria please choose someone else. It didn’t say why🧐

I could obviously ask a friend of a friend or baby’s grandparents friends but they dont know me or baby so reluctant to do so. I don’t think the HV will as she also hasn’t known me for 2 years. My Gp doesn’t do it, already enquired, as it’s just a patient he’s not allowed

i also am self employed so no work colleagues/managers. I could obviously ask a client if they can but again most work in nursery’s, employee at gyms/hairdressers. Not really the criteria

If either of the friends who work in a nursery have their own passport they'll be fine. Someone working professionally with children who has DBS checks will be someone "of good standing". Job done.

Let me give that a go. I assumed it was strictly someone off of that list only. Thanks!

All those people would be fine. They fit the criteria of being of good standing. Don't get fixated on the list.

CatMum27 · 11/04/2025 19:15

I’m a librarian and have signed loads for colleagues as I’m a Chartered member of the professional association. Do you know anyone who has a similar level of professional recognition? Nursery workers may have this.

anonny55 · 11/04/2025 19:19

Okay thanks for the help I didn’t know it wasn’t as strict as they were making out. I wonder why DP mums partner was denied. I thought it was because he didn’t exactly match any on the list. My friends going to try for me 🤞🏽

If you're both self employed do you use an accountant?
Do you have any suppliers or contacts in other similar trades?
Anyone you know through hobbies/interests?

The person signing doesn’t need to know the baby. They are signing they’ve known the PARENT for 2 years.

obviously not the baby for 2 years as he’s only 6 weeks old so that’s impossible. I was under the impression they’d have to have met him as when you verify, it shows his photo and asks is this ‘Callum Davis’ for example

how would they know for sure without ever actually meeting my child

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 11/04/2025 20:06

They need to be able to identify the child as well as knowing the parent for 2 years

Which is a bit mad really because babies look like… babies. And they look completely different a few months after the photo is taken!
