Netflix with ads

Anyone have this?

Just wondering how many there are (and how annoying)?

Standard with ads is much cheaper than without.

Honestly I tried with Disney plus and couldn't cope 😭

It's alright if you start out with ads

But going from having no ads to ads was unbearable. Definitely couldn't do it for netflix

MaMaMaMaBaker · 11/04/2025 18:20

It's not too bad. I despise adverts and I find it bearable as long as I keep the mute button to hand.

They do tend to stick adverts in completely random places in the show, however.

peanutpancakes · 11/04/2025 18:22

I made this change recently and honestly I barely notice, they aren’t often and sometimes not at all. I suppose this may be more frequent in the future but for saving it is worth it.

We usually use the ad breaks to pop to the loo or gtab a drink. They give you a countdown to show how long the ad break will be. In a hour long episode there are normally about 4 I think.

Hayley1256 · 11/04/2025 18:23

I downgraded mine to this and I barley notice them. Some shows don't even have them at all

Hayley1256 · 11/04/2025 18:24

I've got rid of the ads on prime as they were doing my head in, never had them on disney

Takeatriponthenationalexpress · 11/04/2025 18:24

We have this. Honestly the adverts aren't that intrusive and a lot of the programmes don't actually have adverts and they are only 30 secs long and usually only one or two at a time. I think the most advert breaks I've seen with netflix is 3 in a film but as a pp said they are put in random places. However if you are abroad and netflix in that country doesn't have ads you will have to upgrade to the next tier up. I only did this for a month then and changed back to £4.99 the next month.

Years of TV with ads
Fast forward and pause etc comes in, amazing!
subscriptions eg Netflix come in - no ads, great
Now paying for TV with ads, on top of tv license?!
what a Swizz!

Differentstarts · 11/04/2025 18:31

Netflix with ads is fine about a 30 second clip every hour and a half. Disney plus with ads however is awful

BlondeMummyto1 · 11/04/2025 18:36

We have Netflix with adverts. I honestly don’t even really notice them as they’re very short.

BigHaircut · 11/04/2025 19:04

I have the ads option. But it doesn't apply to all shows. I've just watched the entire five (I think?) seasons of Breaking Bad again and there wasn't a single advert. Maybe they only put them in the new popular stuff?

BigHaircut · 11/04/2025 19:06

Be aware that if you have an older TV with an older Netflix app that won't update you can't get the cheaper ad option.

Theraffarian · 11/04/2025 19:08

Barely notice the ads on Netflix shows , quite often watch entire episodes without any , if anything we end up pausing it for loo breaks as the ads are too short !

tedibear · 11/04/2025 19:10

Sometimes none for several episodes. Other times you can get 2 in one episode. My DH thinks the ads are more often in something new and popular and I think he’s on to something there.

Overall though they are only like 30 seconds I think maybe some are 1 minute but I’m sure I’ve seen some that are only 10 seconds. Gone in a flash. It doesn’t annoy me much to pay more!

JoyousEagle · 11/04/2025 19:13

As PPs have said, I barely notice them. I frequently have shows/episodes that don’t have any, and those that do it doesn’t feel like a lot.

I’d imagine that’s true about new/popular shows. More likely to get advertising spaces paid for.

Freysimo · 11/04/2025 19:15

We've had Netflix with ads for a couple of weeks. I've only seen two short ads and there were none at all in a Scandi noir series we watched. I filled in a questionnaire giving my age. I'm quite old so guess not their target ad audience!

frenchnoodle · 11/04/2025 19:20

It depends on what you watch and if you have targeted ads on or off. Obviously someone watching cobra Kai, stranger things and squid games in the 20 to 40 age range gets more ads than someone watching Little Lunch and the floor is Lava.

What annoys me with all the ad funded streaming services (pluto TV, Plex Amazon free vee) is the repetition.

amylou8 · 11/04/2025 19:22

I hardly notice them. Far less intrusive than YouTube.

WhineAndWine1 · 11/04/2025 19:23

God no, I could not do it. If I could pay Sky Tv more for no ads I would.

And it was always the way. Back when satellite and cable TV came along it was the same.

We have recently downgraded to the package with ads, and like some pps have said, we barely notice the ads, there aren't many. Allegedly there are some programmes/films unavailable on the cheap package, but I haven't found any yet. If it turned out I was missing something we really wanted to see I would just upgrade for one month and binge it.

Also now have the packages with ads on Amazon Prime, Now TV, Disney, it's fine. I'm delighted we're saving quite a bit of money!

We also cancelled Apple TV for a while (now Severance has finished) and will alternate with Disney, we were idiots for paying for everything all at once, no need and there isn't time to watch it all anyway. Currently DH has 3 months free Disney that he got with his Tesco Club card (thanks Martin Lewis!). And don't forget to keep cancelling Now every few months, they ALWAYS offer a massive discount to stay. Paying £3.99 a month for Now Entertainment when the full price should be £9.99.

The only one I've noticed being unavailable is Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I'm not going to pay anyone to advertise at me.

Yes, but if you ever had Sky or Virgin etc you had to pay (a lot more than a streaming service), and there were loads of ads, AND you were often tied in for 18th months or more at a time.

Granted, it was possible to fastfoward those ads though.
