Stressing myself out about holiday

I'm going on holiday next week (UK, adults only) and am already stressing myself out. I usually plan days to the nth degree so have tried not to do that this year. However I am worried about weather and having to think of other things. I know lots of people go away and just go with the flow/don't have to have mega day trips planned to enjoy their holiday. I want to be more like those people. Please tell me your ways! If the weather is bad I can spiral a bit and think I might as well be at home which is ridiculous, how can I make even a soggy day feel holidayish? Thank you for reading.

I never really plan my holidays in advance but I'll have an idea of what I'd like to do in the area and then play it by ear according to what I fancy doing or what the weather is like.
Check opening times of any attractions you like the look of but don't book in advance unless absolutely necessary so you aren't tied to a plan.
Take some nice food and drinks but nothing that involves any amount of effort to cook.
I'm in the "there's no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothing" camp so would always get outside daily even if the weather is bad, but treat yourself to a pint at the local pub on the way back, or cooked breakfast if you get out early etc.
Take things to do if the weather is bad - books, board games, puzzle, knitting etc, the things I never get time to sit down and properly do at home.
Get a Prime or Netflix subscription if there's a smart TV and catch up on box sets or films.

Can you give an indication as to where in the uk you are going?

SharpenerHarpenden · 11/04/2025 15:01

Thank you! That's really good advice. I don't mind showers but I just get a bit in my head about plans being ruined.

We are going to Dorset @AtleastitsnotMonday.

ah, that's the trick, don't make fixed plans more than a day in advance and then they can't be ruined!!

SharpenerHarpenden · 11/04/2025 16:39

Thank you, that's a good point. I just feel under pressure to see and do everything because obviously we've paid money to go and taken annual leave. I'm such a weirdo!

Just go to a pub.... Doesn't matter what the weather is doing if you are in a pub 🍻 🍻 🍻 😃😁

If I go on a holiday where the weather can change ( in UK🙂) I do research about the area and have a list of possible places/ activities.
I think if you go with others you need to know their approach e.g some people wake up really early, some prefer relaxing start.
I don’t believe in “go with a flow approach” much, I don’t think you need to plan every minute of your holiday but you need to have a couple of ideas in your sleeve.
