I had been asked to do a passport interview. What sort of things do they ask ? I'm a bit worried i may not know the answers or I get mixed up.

I best do a little research about my area then. And family then.

Questions about your local area. Who is your doctor? How do you get there from your house? What work do you do? I had recently changed career so that threw me a bit! What car do you have? When is it due its MOT? Where did you buy it from? Passport arrived a few days later. I had to do a trip to London to go for interview by I think they are online now.

Yes mine will be on line. Hopefully I will know the answers. I manage to forget my kids names

Oh gosh, I had one years ago.
It was fine a bit strange but nothing to worry about.
They asked lots of questions about day to day life like where do I work. How do I get there.
I think they asked about my neighbours and where my family lived.
Just general stuff like that.
Don't worry about it, it is a strange experience but absolutely fine.

It feels a bit creepy . How do you get to work ? How do they know the answer is right . Are they watching 👀

Daughter has one next week. She's so nervous. Can you fail?

That's what I'm worried about. Theres so much that I don't know that most people probably do.

My 16 year old has an interview in a few weeks.

She is worrying too. I'm sure they will only ask her about school/ GP surgery etc. I did tell her that she might try to remember how old her parents are!

Uphighseesky · 11/04/2025 16:14

Completely out of curiosity - why do some people have to attend passport interviews? I don't know anyone who has had to do that!

I’m sure if you are actually from where you say you are then it’s fine! If they ask you what supermarket you go to or why you moved from where you were born, you’d be able to answer?

wizzbitt · 11/04/2025 16:33

Oh wow! I must have been under a rock for a while. I did not know this was a thing. My passport is up for renewal this year. I wonder if I’ll get an interview?
I hope it all goes well, OP

I had no idea passport interviews were a thing either. What is the purpose of it?

Yeah I could. Its more things like if they ask things about my mother or siblings. Or if they asked me the name of a road a couple streets away. Hopefully i know what they ask

My sister in law needed a passport for the first time at 42. Neither of her parents had passports. She had to go for interview. She said they asked the strangest of questions eg who did you live next door to when you were growing up, what job did they do, when did your parents marry, how long have you lived in your house, who was your neighbour. She got ever so flustered and couldn’t even recall her mums birthday! She got her passport though so must have been ok!

I'm mid 40s and getting my first passport. I would not know some of that stuff. I think im going to write all my old addresses down 😅. And stuff i think they could ask .

But then if they see i have written it down that could cause a problem?

I wounder if its mainly that they see you . So they know your the person on the passport picture

I think the main thing to do is consider all of these things now and so you’ve got time to check if there’s any missing details. She was asked about her first job too. You’ll be fine, it’s the dishonest people who should be worried!

I was a bit flustered and told them i cycled to work. I told them the route, the colour of my bike Grin. I even said that I got a lift with a friend if it was raining. Blush

I would be the same. I would be saying it depends on what the kids choose. Trains, buses , walking and mix depends what the kids choose 😅 how do they know if I go in a train or not ? i would probably get my kids mixed up . I don't even 100% know my mums name. I'm gonna have to remember to ask a sibling.

this happened to friends son, they searched google ‘questions the passport office asked’ or something like that.
I can’t remember which site came up, possibly the .gov.ukone, with a whole list of question…

Zeitumschaltung · 11/04/2025 20:39

I would imagine that they draw conclusions based on how you answer even if you don’t know the answer. A person pretending to be someone else would find it hard to put together a story on the fly. Don’t worry if there are thinking you don’t remember.
