I know it’s only April and it’s England but it’s been such a lovely couple of weeks of sunshine. We are going to Cornwall next week and the forecast is pretty miserable, feel really disappointed! Staying near Carbis Bay, any suggestions of what to do if it does actually rain every day?!

Oh no! We were looking at Cornwall too but I’m gutted we didn’t pick this week.

Sorry op, no help on where to go either!

The pool at St Ives leisure centre is good with kids. There is also a cinema there (no idea what is on). Stick wetsuits on and go in the sea anyway. Maritime museum in Falmouth. Eden Project. Potter round the shop in Penzance. Pub lunch in Mousehole..?

Put waterproofs on and do whatever you had planned to do this week. You wouldn’t have been doing days on the beach sunbathing in April anyway.

I know @Easypeasymacncheesy im so disappointed after the weather this week and it just looks like rain every day next week!

You’ll get wet in the sea regardless so go for a swim!

What were your plans?

WitcheryDivine · 10/04/2025 19:37

Shopping in St Ives, pack boots and Waterproofs and walk from sennen to lands end and back along the coast path. See what’s on at the cinema in st ives or Redruth - they do more event cinema there. Acorn Theatre in Penzance may have things on. Lots of national trust places eg St Michael’s Mount.

@Offtobuttonmoontovisitmrspoon i was hoping for dry days so we could visit coastal areas like Marazion, St Michael’s Mount, Sennen etc

We go to Cornwall several times a year to stay with family and make a holiday of it. We just crack on whatever the weather. Admittedly my kids are very outdoorsy so perhaps this doesn't appeal to everyone, but mine are very happy to just put on their wetsuits and play on the beach and on their bodyboards, then get a hot chocolate at the beach cafe to warm up. Likewise we will get our waterproofs on and go for a walk on the coastal path or wherever. We've watched performances at the Minack in the rain before now. It's honestly never ruined our holiday, but it does mean adjusting expectations a bit.

Honestly you can still do all that.

I visit Cornwall at least twice a year and quickly learned never to look at, or trust, the weather forecast.

Cornwall has its own micro climate at the weather changes so much. It doesn’t usually rain for long and a good set of waterproofs should keep you warm and dry.

Thank you everyone, I ll try and think more positive about it!

I have just left Cornwall today, 3 days earlier than planned. Torrential rain today, non stop over 24 hours. If we stayed any longer the road out of our holiday park would have been completely blocked with flood waters, too much for my little fiesta. I am so sad as it was a lovely quiet park and a brand new caravan. We had 10 miles left on the A30 and we finally escaped the rain. My son had 1 pair of dry shoes left (I put his wellies outside to dry after he went in a stream then the deluge came) Our 2 dogs were constantly soaked on a cycle of go out for a wee, come in, rest in crates til dried a little. Short while of freedom to roam the caravan before it's time for another toilet break. I can confirm, holidays in constant rain are no fun!!

The Minnack Theatre which has already been mentioned is great - built into the cliffside and really spectacular (though it did set off DH's vertigo!). Just near there in Porthcurno is a fab museum all about communications PK Porthcurno Museum of Global Communications | Home highly recommended! If the weather is kind, the beach 2 mins walk from there is also lovely.

And I also really love the Meadery restaurant at Newlyn. My parents used to take me as a kid and I took my own kids there a couple of years ago. Chicken in the Rough eaten with fingers! Although you can have cutlery if you prefer. Newlyn Meadery | Medieval themed family restaurant in Newlyn
