Benefits of having teen boys

Does anyone else love having teenage sons. I am lucky enough to have two and they're so bloody useful. In the garden I put them to work lifting heavy stuff. We collected a car load of soil the other day and it took so little time to fill up the bags. Pop into b&q and all the heavy stuff gets loaded up. Last year we dismantled a shed which DH and I would never have managed alone.

Anyone else find them useful to have around despite the cost of food and the nagging to get homework done.

Yes my son was lovely as a teen, he never had moods or anything. He was always happy to help with lifting etc. He's still lovely at 30!

Pandimoanymum · 10/04/2025 17:34

Well, I’ve only got one child so I can’t compare it to having a girl, but as I’m single yes, it’s useful having another near-adult around to help with stuff.
I’ve always imagined there might be more flouncing and drama with a girl, but that’s probably based on myself at that age! And that was mostly because I had siblings to argue with, not necessarily a ‘girl’ thing 🤣

Yes! I’m on my own and I really appreciate how helpful and capable mine is. He recently built a hen coop, does errands and fixes things. Also love the advice he gives me. Total darling.

Sound like mine! It’s lovely isn’t it? ☺️

Our teen boys are so funny and interesting to talk with. They're an absolute delight! I love spending time with them.

Shrewsbury247 · 10/04/2025 17:56

I have two and they’re so lovely, helpful yet laid back and funny. They’re just the best so yes op I totally agree with you 😀

LittleLabrador · 10/04/2025 17:58

My son is almost 13 and fantastic. Already 5 foot 8 so very helpful at reaching things for me because I’m a short arse!

Ln4eva · 10/04/2025 17:59

I am short and teen ds takes after his dad and is really tall which is so useful he can reach things I can’t- it’s worth him winding me up about it so I don’t have to ask random people in the shop to get something for me. He is also great just to have an afternoon doing nothing with as we have random conversations, I can’t wait for ds2 to get to that age

ThirstyMeeples · 10/04/2025 17:59

Ah I agree. Mine are so funny and have spent the day digging some tracks for a new path I'm planning. And great company. I'm sure teenage girls are just as lovely

MyKingdomForACat · 10/04/2025 18:10

Loved it. They’re 27 and 36 now and very handy for heavy-lifting, clearing out lofts etc. ❤️

Me too.
And he rings me loads.

Mine’s ace. Just been for a few days away together (left DH at home). He’s such good company and we just had a chilled fab time.

madonninamia · 10/04/2025 19:11

I’m so jealous! I have a teen daughter and as much as I love her and the rare hugs I get at the moment it’s mostly strops flounces and fake lashes clogging up the plug hole and no help what so ever with anything heavy as she might break a nail! 🫤

My DH moans a lot about how his DM worked him in the garden all year as a teenager. He is resentful now tbh.

This plus many of the other things. Clever, funny, interesting to talk to most of the time, gives hugs and carries heavy things brilliantly.

BeaAndBen · 10/04/2025 19:15

It was great for me! Less so for DH, as they clashed quite a bit. Following the stereotype, DD and DH get on beautifully while she and I clashed a lot in her mid teens.

Teenage sons can be such absolute sweethearts. Slightly awkwardly sweet and considerate, and also willing to do the heavy physical stuff I struggle with.

QueefQueen80s · 10/04/2025 19:32

Great thread! I have two lovely boys and hope they’ll be lovely teens

shellyleppard · 10/04/2025 19:34

They can reach the top of cupboards, and make a good meal. Speciality for eldest is homemade lasagna, youngest vegetarian meatball subs ❤️

AlphabetBird · 10/04/2025 19:34

DS16 is the best company. He’s so funny, kind to his friends and just all round great.

I keep waiting for the nightmare stage to start, but I think I might like teenage him the best of all the ages so far!

Looksonthebrightside · 10/04/2025 19:36

Love my boys 😍

I don't think they're in any danger of being overworked. Gardening is my hobby so I do most of the work, it's just nice when they move pots or compost etc.

Glad to hear others have lovely teens too. They really do get to be great company. They make me laugh a lot.

As a former teen boy these posts are lovely to read!

YesHonestly · 10/04/2025 19:46

They are just the best.

Mine is 15, taller than me and gives the best hugs. He says “come here little one” and wraps me in a bear hug 😂.

He’s just so kind and funny, I love listening to him talking to his mates who are all very similar. He’s away with school at the moment and I am counting the minutes until he’s home.

Aparecium · 10/04/2025 19:47

I don't know what I will do when youngest goes to uni (🤞) in the autumn. I do know, actually: I'll have to do dishes. I've barely done any washing up in years. Only when all the dc have been away, or if they've done the cooking and it's only fair that I then do the dishes.
