My ex boyfriend had terrible trouble with his skin and it made him really down. He started rocutane and had quite a red face for a little while but after that his skin was fantastic! He said he wished he had taken it when he was a teenager.

Has GP suggested that she takes the combined pill to help?

No, not pill yet.
Just wondering if there are other solutions, she was taking antibiotics but then seemed do develop other issues, I'm sure she would be fine in rocotane but it seems very extreme

Ds (16) was advised roaccutane by the dermatologist, but he's about to start GCSEs so we weren't taking the risk of any side effects! A combination of antibiotics and the prescription cream worked well. He still gets the odd flare up but I'm convinced he will grow out of it (like his older brothers did).

Roaccutane was the only thing that worked for dd, she had tried literally everything else. She was on it for about 6 months at age 17 and apart from a bit of dry skin on her lips she had no side effects at all (we paid privately as the nhs waiting list was so long, they’re monitored very closely, bloods every 2 weeks etc). Skin completely cleared up, she’s now 22 and it never came back. She says it was the best thing ever. Not everyone has a horrendous time on it. Starting on a very low dose initially is key.

Our son was in this position and the NHS dermatologist has been able to prescribe a couple of other antibiotics and creams to try that the GP wasn't. They each have helped for a period of time (prob about 9 months each) but now not as well. From the last appointment I believe roaccutane is the only other option but due to other health conditions we are all hesitant for him to try this. If you can get a referral Id say definitely worth it.

I’m not in the UK. In my country any girl or woman who could possibly get pregnant (approx 12-50yo) must be on contraception for one month prior to commencing it. That’s because the potential birth defects are pretty bad. Based on that your DD might need to go on the Pill anyway.

The Pill helped my skin as a teenager. It’s helped my teenaged DD’s skin. DH had terrible cystic acne as a teen and very early 20s. Roaccutane worked a miracle on his skin. He had peeling fingers and lips, bone pain and some depression from taking it. It was worth it. Nothing else would have cleared his skin. Unfortunately by the time he was able to get it prescribed his skin had sustained a lot of scarring that he still has nearly 30 years later.

In my experience, if it’s bad cystic acne nothing will solve it except Roaccutane.

i took it aged 21 and side effects were absolutely minimal. And I have a history of depression but was absolutely fine with the drug. I had a v sensible and careful dermatologist who prescribed a low dose for a long ish course. Within. 8 weeks the painful and incredibly unsightly cysts were gone, I’ve barely had a spot since and I’m now 49.

Not wishing to hijack but this is really reassuring as I think roacctunane in my next step but have a history of depression

I don't think it's cystic, one side lower cheek has stubborn spots but the other side has flared up now as well.
