Is anyone up, waiting on ambulance

Have horrendous stomach pain for about 8 hours, seen by an ambulance at about midnight who thought it would be IBS or stress despite me rolling around on the bathroom floor in tears. Vomiting.

I’ve woken up this morning much the same, agony, sweating, lightheaded. Just gone to toilet and I’m passing lots of blood from back passage. Toilet bowl was bright red. It could be piles but I don’t know.

111 have sent an ambulance and said it could be a wait but want me to wait for it as can’t be vomiting in the back of a taxi.

I’ve managed to pile up some clothes and toiletries, bloody crawling around the house.

I’m meant to be at work and I’m bloody panicking that they’ll be hacked off, my mental health has dropped this week and I already had to take Monday off - my manager didn’t seem upset but surely this is a bit of a joke now taking another day off. I was going to go into work and explain to them and see what they suggested (I work in healthcare) but not sure that’s a wise idea.

This sounds horrible, I hope they come soon and you are ok. Don't fret about work now, you are in the midst of a medical emergency.

Jabtastic · 09/04/2025 07:03

Don't even think about work OP. Take care!

Theunamedcat · 09/04/2025 07:04

Don't go into work that brings into play the idea that if your well enough to get into work your well enough to work

Yeah I’m not sure why I was thinking of going in. Someone did a few weeks ago and it turned she was in the middle of a heart attack. It’s more if work send you to hospital they don’t count it as a sick day. I don’t know. I’ve never been so sore gor this long. Normally with IBS if I have a poo it goes. This is just continual pain from under my boobs to the top of my legs. It’s agony.

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 07:12

It’s so sore and there’s no relief, no matter where I move I can’t feel better, nothing I can do is taking it away

Sounds awful for you OP. I hope the ambulance gets there quickly. I echo others in saying try not to fret about work. If you need an ambulance (and defo sounds like you do) then it's not as though you're faking anything. Fingers crossed for a quick resolution to whatever is going on inside of you x

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 07:13

Do you think it’s safe to go to the toilet or should I hold it til ambulance comes?

If you want to go to the loo, do so. Otherwise you might have an accident in the ambulance. Also, if there's a lot of blood when you go to the loo, it might be useful for them to see it.

I'm so sorry - you sound very poorly! Never mind, the ambulance will be there soon! Keep warm and drink fluids in the meantime. Sending hugs xxx

Karmaistheguyonthechiefs · 09/04/2025 07:18

I agree, I'd go the toilet and maybe take a photo of you can manage it, to show the doctors when you get to hospital.

Also unlock the front door so ambulance people can get in, in case you can't answer the door when they arrive.

I hope they turn up soon!

Joystir59 · 09/04/2025 07:33

Hope the ambulance comes soon and that you are ok

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 07:40

There are always other jobs there is only one of you

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 09:26

Just been taken through to waiting room, had bloods taken and obs a couple of times. They said no pain relief or anything to eat until I’ve seen a doctor and then in same breath said that could be anything from 2-12 hours time. I’ve just pleaded with the nurse for something to help.

I'm so glad you're in hospital. I really hope things move fast - so scary for you.

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 09:47

They’ve just said there’s about 6 people still to be seen ahead of me, she said probably 3-4 hour wait - so I guess that means they aren’t worried but they won’t let me have any pain relief until then, and NBM still too.

Sounds awful OP. Wonder if it could be salmonella from the symptoms you have.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 10:23

Thanks, I wish they would give me something, even 2 paracetomal would be something but just keep being told to wait

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 11:26

Supposedly I’ll get to see someone in the next hour or so. A&E has gone from
empty to absolutely jam packed in the meantime. Work have been in touch and said not to stress too much.

Hand hold op, I know how tough it is. I've had a lifetime of severe gastro issues and know how painful it can be, and you must be pretty scared too.

What I will say is that the bleeding isn't necessarily something dreadful - bright red blood is also the better type of bleeding to have because it means its fresh and likely from lower down in the intestinal tract. Its dark, brown or black blood that sets the major alarm bells ringing.

As you say, it could be piles or maybe a burst blood vessel and perhaps you have IBD instead of IBS. All treatable.

While you wait for pain relief, find the position that's most comfortable. If any of the pain is related to trapped gas, then moving about til you find a position which offers some relief can help.

Focus on breathing through the pain, slow deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Distraction can also help, if you have a comb or hairbrush with you try gripping it hard when the pain peaks. It shouldn't damage your hand but can be an effective distraction.

Don't worry about work, what are they going to do, tell you off for bleeding?

uncomfortablydumb60 · 09/04/2025 17:04

I’m really sorry you’re in such pain. I’m surprised they won’t even allow gas and air which wears off quickly.
Do ask for that if you can.
Bright red blood, although frightening is actually better
Brown or “ coffee ground” vomits would point to something more severe.
Please do not give work another thought
you didn’t choose to have this for a fun day out.
i hope you’re more comfortable soon

butwheredoesitgo · 09/04/2025 17:07

Food poisoning, nothing they can do for it except ride it out. I’m on 30/500 cocodamol and due at six, but other than that just lying in bed afraid to move for pain.

OP posts:
MyOtherProfile · 09/04/2025 17:55

Oh boy. I'm glad it was nothing more dangerous.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 09/04/2025 23:39

Oh How awful! I do hope you manage to get some relief from the pain so you can sleep
