My Miele dishwasher keeps dying - what brand should I get next?

My old Miele white goods lasted YEARS and years. But more recent purchases aren't lasting as long.

My Miele dishwasher cost me £300 in repairs a few months ago, and now I'm about to shell out again because it has got a new, different fault. I don't know if it's worth it, honestly. And I don't know if I want another Miele as they don't seem worth the expense.

If you have a brilliant dishwasher, please recommend it to me!

My Miele dishwashers have been going flawlessly for 13 years so that does seem like bad luck

Aria999 · 08/04/2025 17:02

Bosch

Kamek · 08/04/2025 17:03

My bosch one is over 15 years old and used daily and is still going strong. It's had a hard life too!

My Bosch is great and over 10 years old (previous house owners bought it so could be older!)

The problem is, whatever’s been going strong will have been made a while ago, and now that cost of living etc has been squeezed for so long I think manufacturers take more shortcuts.

I always go for Bosch or Miele if I can afford it though.

Hotpoint! We bought a cheap one as a temporary solution whilst having our kitchen renovated. Had a Bosch installed, and it was awful compared to our cheap Hotpoint. Took the Bosch out and got rid, kept the cheap Hotpoint. It’s the best dishwasher I’ve ever had.

I have also been underwhelmed by my Miele dishwasher - it’s about 8 years old.

Tumbler2121 · 08/04/2025 17:12

You haven't said how old this Miele is .... if less than 4 years I'd go back under Sale of Goods reasonable life. or just appeal to their customer service. I've had goods repaired/replaced well over a year old using this

yetanotherusername9183837 · 08/04/2025 17:12

Yes my old Miele ones lasted well into double figures @Delphigirl but when I replaced them all about seven years ago, for new expensive Miele ones, the new versions have all had lots of expensive faults just a few years in.

Our dishwasher is not yet seven years old, but it will have cost me more than £600 in repairs this year alone if I go ahead with this new repair.

Or I buy a new one, which I am tempted by. I shall look at Bosch, and AEG are also getting good reviews on ao.com

Thanks all, pls keep the thoughts coming as it's an expensive purchase and not one I want to get wrong!

It doesn't matter what you buy. It'll only last around 5 years.

A dishwasher that was made 15 years ago and is still going strong bears little resemblance to the shite being produced now, regardless of brand.

hellswelshy · 08/04/2025 17:15

I have a Bosch. It's around 10 years old. Never had any issues with it and it's still going strong! Use it every day too.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 08/04/2025 17:16

Bosch, had Meile wouldn’t ever again!

Ivesaidenough · 08/04/2025 17:26

I have a Neff. I bought it in 2001 !😆 still going strong.

BeyondMyWits · 08/04/2025 17:28

Bosch for us too. Daft reason really, it is the right layout for our Denby dishes.

(Yep, I actually took a plate and pasta bowl to curry's to check... and then bought AO because they were so much cheaper!)

SoOxon · 08/04/2025 17:34

We have an Electra from AO its six years old now, reliable, efficient, quiet.
It has a glasses/delicates wash too
We have a Miele washing machine which I hate but it won’t die.

If and when we buy new I would have a reliable Beko, whatver the appliance is.
Bosch have had their day

I agree that new machines are nowhere near as robust as those
of ten plus years ago, nothing like as heavy or solidly built.

yetanotherusername9183837 · 08/04/2025 17:41

I do agree that modern machines just don't last as long as those built 10+ years ago.

Miele again. Many years of service here. Miele service call outs are so expensive though!

Bluevelvetsofa · 08/04/2025 18:03

Our integrated Zanussi died after a couple of years. The alternatives were Miele or Beko. The price difference was about £600. The Beko lasted 8 years and is still in the house, but we moved.

Tumbler2121 · 08/04/2025 18:09

My Bosch dishwasher lasted 15 years, in fact it was still going strong but the house electrics played up, electrician said it was dishwasher's fault so I bought a new one, shame though!

Papyrophile · 08/04/2025 19:42

It might be worth looking at Liebherr, which are made from near-identical components as Miele but sold at a lower price. I have their fridge which is 10 years old and going strong, which was £200 cheaper than the identical thing from Miele just without a wine rack, so I bought one separately.

Jane958 · 08/04/2025 19:52

I have had my Miele since 1998, never had any problems.
Have you been maintaining correctly? Cleaning the filter regularly.
When you say dying, how does this manifest?

saveforthat · 08/04/2025 19:55

Mine is Siemens and 20 years old now. I have had it repaired twice, it cost about £100 each time.
