Extraordinary story. Arrested in lockdown for the attempted murder of a colleague who was going to give evidence against him in a disciplinary hearing. The colleague was very lucky to survive being stabbed. Brooks was going to set fire to his house too, it would seem. It sounds like an open and shut case from the details given, but Brooks just basically refused to co-operate with the criminal justice system, to the extent of going on hunger strike. Repeatedly fired his lawyers and ended up nominally representing himself, but actually refusing to go to court, so the trial must have been very strange indeed for all concerned. He's now been found guilty and will be sentenced in June.

Not the kind of personality type you want to be operating on patients.

Jonathan Peter Brooks tried to manipulate the forensic process, prison staff and the courts, a judge says.

Indeed, extraordinary & fascinating & devious & clever & awful!

He seems to be an extreme example of the theory that it can sometimes be helpful (if that’s the right word) to a career to be a psychopath, I’ve certainly seen some evidence of that in senior managers although thankfully (!) it only manifested as bullying & controlling behaviour.

I’ve often wondered what happens if the accused simply doesn’t engage; thank goodness the criminal justice system dealt with him appropriately.

Personality disorder I'd hazard a guess.

I remember watching the 24 hours in police custody which featured the surgeon that tried to commit insurance fraud through faking a break in at the family home. It was absolutely fascinating to obverse someone so completely convinced they were superior to everyone else and could do what they damn well liked. Worth a watch.

All that time and money wasted. The poor victim and his family being subject to even further distress.

Ooh I agree. I was mesmerised watching this. The sneering, total arrogance was utterly breathtaking. Think it was called The Detective and the Surgeon, Channel 4. Watch it!!
