It could be my travel anxiety speaking but we need to go to Manchester tomorrow, driving from St Albans. We need to travel back as have other plans for the day after- for some reason I feel this is too far and not sensible to drive back the same day. Is it my anxiety speaking?

I have done 1000km in a day, by car, from South-West France to Luxembourg. I would have got home to my place (a little further on) had I not had to wait for my parents to get up, in order to say "goodbye" to them. Consequently left at 09:00 rather than 07:00. French motorways were very quiet. I had a couple of stops, but got bored near Lux, so stopped at a hotel, where I had stayed loads of times while living in Lux for an overnighter.
I have also done a 500km round trip from my house to somewhere south of Stuttgart. It was Easter Sunday, so roads fairly quiet. It was a long day, though.
Yesterday I did a 200km round trip.
I think it very much depends on how the traffic is and why you are going. I also have the "advantage" of travelling solo, so no distractions.

The furthest I’ve driven in a day was to the fairly southern France. With a trailer so probably took 12/13 hours.
