Smashed my teeth running

Clearinguptheclutter · 06/04/2025 22:15

Feeling very sorry for myself, tripped running and have lost significant chunks of my two upper front teeth. I’m abroad so can’t really do anything until I get back tomorrow (not in pain fortunately)

I obviously look dreadful and need this sorting, not least because they both have spikey bits currently and eating is difficult.

Can someone calmly talk me through the likely options. One of my friends thought it could be fixed with a “filling”- this seems unlikely to me. Veneers, crowns? How many thousands are we talking here to get them fixed and how permanent could they be? I really don’t have a clue.

One of my DC badly chipped their front tooth, the dentist cemented over it and now you can’t tell. Maybe it was composite bonding.

ServantoftheBones · 07/04/2025 02:17

My upper front teeth were all very cracked along the bottoms and I’ve had composite fillings to repair them three times now on the NHS as I’m on UC

Yeah Mr Mknkey has a bit of one of his front teeth bonded as he broke a bit off it in his early 20s playing football. He recently had to have it replaced (private dentist) and it cost a few hundred pounds.

Thanks for the reassuring comments. Just for home.

I won’t be able to get nhs treatment but if i can get away with a few hundred quid for a decent composite bonding job privately- and avoid more drastic measures such as veneers or implants I will be very happy.

re travel insurance as it’s entirely (i think) cosmetic I doubt it would kick in but I will check.

Agree with others - I knocked massive chunks off front teeth years ago and I've had composite bonding. It was recently replaced as it had yellowed, and was £500 private. As long as you have a nice root in place, you should be okay!

If it's difficult to eat and sharp bits are cutting your lip etc,I don't think it would come under cosmetic.

I knocked the end of one of my front teeth off when I was about 12. It was built back up with the stuff they use for white fillings and is still absolutely fine over 30 years later.

helpfulperson · 07/04/2025 12:24

I've had a big gap on front teeth filled with composite bonding (I presume) and I get minor chips in it which dentist sorts every few years if it's becoming noticable.

garlictwist · 07/04/2025 12:50

I am getting a bridge for some missing teeth and it’s costing £2k so you are probably looking at something like that.

I feel for you op i really do i came of my bike in my 20s over the handle bars and slid on the side of my face and lost 2 front teeth smashed right out smashed the right side of my face up badly.
I still have the scars on my face and no teeth thank god we had nhs back then.
I had to wait 8 long weeks before i could get my first set of false teeth because my face was stitched up.
I learned a very good lesson that day wear a helmet.
I had done a good job because the A&E nurse asked for pitchers so she could show school kids what can happens if you dont wear a helmet.
Went back after 3 week she took more pitchers and 6 months later to take last pitchers to show the scars months on.
I did agree to having the pitchers done and i hope it showed a few kids helmets are there for a reason.

Good news is I have an appointment with nice cosmetic dentist I’ve used before this afternoon and insurance policy (work, not travel) should cover the first £1k or so. Phew. Let’s see what they say. Will report back.

I had bonding on a broken front tooth, lasted 15 years no hassle. £45

Ubugly · 07/04/2025 13:22

i fell on my face but unfortunately liked the front tooth so has to have root canal, your tooth will change colour if it’s died so I’ve had root canal, composite restoration and having bonding done soon amd I’ve spent about 1k as private and yes I hate myself!

hope yours is straight forward!

DD lost a decent chunk of her adult front tooth.

the dentist did something which took about 15 minutes - injected some (I assume compostite material) and gently formed to shape, UV light and job done. It’s been in place for 5 years now.

had it done privately. Cost me £30.

a bit aghast at some of the prices being discussed here!

My DD smashed both (adult) front teeth into a sort of V shape, when she fell over age 10.
Her treatment sounded similar to your DD and I think cost about £90. That was 8 years ago. She broke one once a few years ago but otherwise they are fine

Good luck OP

Very happy!
dentist took X-ray and confirmed no real damage.
could do £2k veneers but am opting for composite bonding for £350 which insurance should reimburse

will be sorted next week.

am very relieved! Appreciate everyone’s advice.
