I'm only a hobby baker but am a retired Dorset cheese scone queen. I won first place amongst 17 countywide entrants a few years ago at the County Show.

On another occasion, Lord Fellowes's wife told me he was delighted with my shortbread and Martin Roberts from Homes Under the Hammer declared my blueberry muffins to be 'bloody lovely'.

I do have a lovely family and good job but I hold these little accolades close to my heart.

What special small scale achievements are precious to you?

I won first prize on Silly Senses on Wacaday in 1990, was Royal Mail Young Letter Writer of the Year in 1991, and more recently won a bake off competition (judged by a former GBB contestant and a head chef at Gü) with a Betty Crocker box of mix 😂😂😂😂

As a child I won a competition in The Church Times writing about:
'What would you say to Jesus if he came to tea?'

Annie Nightingale read one of my letters out on Mailbag on Radio 1 in 1983.

Bob Monkhouse said I had amazing breasts, 20 odd years ago. Cheers Bob.

And I won a Best Local Rider Class at a local horse show 30 years ago, in a massive class of about 20, on the borrowed riding school horse. Super duper proud of that one.

I was draughts champion at secondary school.

Prize was supposed to be £5 (a lot of money at the time!). DF advanced me the money. I spent the money! Prize awarded during assembly was a fancy geometry set!

Yes, the number of competitors is important.
First of twenty is great!
I came second playing the piano in a music festival once. Guess how many people entered the class?!

I came first in a writing contest (that I later found out had two entrants, & the judge later told me we were equally good so he'd tossed a coin to decide). But still! I won!

Did you get a rosette, @CountryShepherd ? I regularly enter things in our local show but it's a very small affair (first prize £2.50) and no rosettes.

They are getting foxed with age now! These are for the much smaller Spring Show - way less competition but best bake in show two years running. Last year - not even placed. I'm losing my touch.

My weather picture of “windy” was shown on midlands today and I got a T-shirt and a goodie bag sent in to school and presented in assembly
